I'm often on a UK forum for dales ponies (which is Blossom's breed). Anyway, one of the girls there is very much into obedience trials and agility trials and this came up
before i forget, there is a collie at a vets someone was tellin me bout at obedience on tuesday who is a sheep dog, but sadly his owner died he is castrated, 6 yr old, lovely agffectionate dog apparantly who wont do well in kennels so they are trying to rehome him by word of mouth.
Being a collie, I asked Nic:
That's so sad when they lose their owners, but dogs can adapt amazingly to a new life, and he's still relatively young. Do you have any idea if he's a working dog or a companion??
And her response was:
I know They don't know much about his back ground as its hard to tell now they can't ask the owner. But they think he was a working dog, working with sheep, but also prob a companion as well as his nature is very nice, but again, i am just going by what this lady said, i don't know the dog myself, but she is a very knowledgable lady when it comes to dogs, so i would trust her 100%!
I don't normally get involved with the rehoming of dogs as so many others do such a better job than me, but something about this chap really tugged at my heartstrings. Being a former dog groomer, I know how lovely the collies can be as a companion, but it may be that this chap is also a working dog as well. If there are an UK Teddy Talkers who feel like they can give this fellow a good home, can you please pm or email me and I'll get you in contact with Nic. The vet is based in Oxford if that helps.
I'd love to see a pic of the dog....most times "collie" isn't what we americans would consider a "Lassie Come Home" dog. My English Shepherd, Brinkley, is a descendant of the working collies in Scotland and England. Fantastic dogs, loyal to the core and only wanting to please.
I really hope he finds a home soon, they don't do well in kennels at all, poor luv. They need people to please.

Good point, Chrissi, as 'collie' nowadays referrs moreso to the black and white working border collies far more than the Lassie, rough collie versions.
I don't know if I can get a photo, but I'll ask for a better pinpoint on the breed
Okay, tried to get a bit more info, but the lady at the vets with the info is gone, so probably no more info til tomorrow. It does sound like this chap is a true working sheepdog, no matter what version of collie he is.....so a good chance he'll need to be placed in a 'working' position no matter what
You know, nowadays, its harder to find people that utilize their dogs. In a way, that's a bit of a shame, as there's a great joy and contentment working with an animal to get a job done.
It is a border collie!
So it IS a border collie (the black and white type), and he's a working lad as far as we know. If anyone's around the Oxford area (UK) and thinks they can give this boy a home, or know someone who might be interested, please let me know.
