Just curious if anyone else likes the band Casting Crowns.  I just recently discovered them and got their lastest CD, Lifesong.  I love this band and their lyrics really make you think and stir up some emotions.  I especially like the songs Does Anybody Hear Her,  Stained Glass Masquerade, and Love Them Like Jesus.   Best thing is my teen and pre-teen like them too so we can listen together   bear_thumb  !

I have it blasting and it is making me sew faster

Hi Tammy,
I've heard their music playing in my Bible Bookstore and also on a christian radio station I listen to online. I have Lifesong on my list of things to get next time I'm at the bookstore! Now I'm thinking I might have to make a special trip today! It's nice to get your feeback on it. They seem to have the sound of popular alternative, am I right?

OMG Tammy....this is so freaky just as I read your post and the name of the song "Does anybody hear her" it came on the radio!!!! Yes I do indeed love them!!!

Krista

Yep Daphne,  I'd say that is true.  It is very contemporary Christian music. I really, really like the lead singers voice too.  I don't think you would regret getting the CD.

The more I listen the more I like it !!!!

Krista that is freaky , that song just tears at my heartstrings.  It's so sad but true.

You can her some clips of their songs on their website: http://www.castingcrowns.com/main.php (click on the top left corner for music). This CD is a little more traditional soft rock in style than one of their other CDs I've heard which seemed a little more rock/alternative. Do you have any of their other CDs, Tammy? And have you read the book 'Lifestories' by Mark Hall? The songs from 'Lifesong' are based on the events of this book.

Krista... any other christian bands you like or would recommend any of their recent albums? I might as well make the trip to the bible bookstore worth the hours drive! bear_original

No ,I don't have any of their other CD's but have heard a few other songs.  I think rock/alternative is probably more true for this CD than pop now that you mention it .   This Cd had a lot of input from Mark Miller of Sawyer Brown too and I see a simliarity to some of their stuff .

I'll have to look for that book too.  Thanks Daphne !

Sorry Daphne, I had no idea that they were a Christian Band until you guys just pointed it out  I used to be quite up on Christian rock, but I am embarassed to say not so much anymore.
Our radio station here that plays all day long in my house plays everything so I never know what will be up next!!! But love the variety so keep it on.

I also discovered a Christian radio station about 2 months ago while I was driving.  I think it has been around for a year now , I was slow to find it.  I listen to it online while I sew.   That is where I first hear Casting Crowns.  There are so many great Chrstian bands that are so contemporary sounding.   They can easily cross over into mainstream , and you may not even realize they are a Christian Band.    I also like Tree63, Chris Tomlin and Third Day.  It's funny cuz I never pictured myself having Christian music blasting in my house- it seemed so stuffy or something,  but it is now so different than traditional Christian stuff.  If that makes any sense ???

K Pawz Guest

Oh I so agree Tammy....when I was big into Christian music, Amy Grant was my favorite!!! And of course she did the cross over afterwards

Krista

Cheryl you are so lucky !!! We just found out about a 4 days event ,called Kingdom Bound, in NY this summer that features many artists such as Casting Crowns, Chris Tomlin, Newsboys, etc.  Hubby and I are thinking of taking the kids and going.  I keep telling them it is a REALLY long drive . We are long overdue for a family vacation far from home.   We may even stop in at Daphne's Bear show in Maine on the way home.....maybe...I really would love too for sure.

I think you should go to Kingdom Bound. If it's the event I've heard of it's been going on for a whle and is fantastic! (Of course I also think you should go because a stop off in Maine on the way home would be SO exciting too!)

Krista, I too loved Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith, Stryper, Rich Mullins, Steve Green. That was so long ago. I still listen to them but love their older stuff. Amy Grants album "Thy Word" (I think it was... didn't it have a traffic light on the front?) was my fav.

K Pawz Guest

WoW, the memories you just brought back Daphne...I listened to all of them...not sure about that album, but "In My Fathers Eyes" is my favorite Amy Grant song....I went to a youth revival when I was young in Boston and got to see Steve Green, Rich Mullins, and Styper perform...what an upliffting weekend that was!!

Yup I love Casting Crowns too! I haven't heard their new album (can I still call it an albun if it's a CD?) but I will put it on my wish list.

I don't have any newer stuff but I also really like Mercy Me and Caednmon's Call - Hands of the Potter is one of my very favorites.

Krista, that wasn't in the mid 80's by any chance was it? I went to an event in Boston and saw all of the artists you just mentioned. I can't remember what year it was. Also saw Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith in concert together on Boston Common.

Tammy - you've got me wanting to go to NY this summer now!

K Pawz Guest

Yup was in the 80's and actually went with a youth group from a church in Cole Harbour, Tammy....Hillside Weslyn if my memory serves me correctly!!! You might actually know my sister, Sherri Hubley? At that time I lived with Jan and Chuck and all of their kids, I was the trouble maker that they took in!!!

OHHH! I love Casting Crowns, Mercy Me, and Jars of Clay, but my absolute new favorite is Third Day. I just got the CD Offerings II. I listen to it over and over!

I listened to Amy Grant as a kid, but it has been only in  the last couple of years that I've really started to enjoy Contemporary Christian music. I would hit the seek button on my car radio if I was traveling out of town and I found myself stopping at the Christian stations more and more.

I love Casting Crowns!  I actually got to meet them last summer.  To make a long story short, I was working in the games area at a concert in my town and wound up playing dodgeball with Mark and his kids!  I didn't even know who he was until afterwards, when he told us!
I love Christian music, it's pretty much all I listen to.

This thread inspired me to get out some cassette tapes I haven't listened to in ages! (Yup, still have 'em..... and an old boom box to listen to 'em on! LOL!)

Rebecca St. James and Twila Paris are another couple of my favorite artists. Those I have on CD.

Hubs and I are having noise wars! I turn the tunes up, he turns the TV up, I turn the music up some more so I can hear it, he turns the TV up more (some car race is on..... VERY NOISEY!). Now I've just shut the door to my studio. The dogs are in here with me..... they have good taste!

Wow, Katrina! What a great event to be part of!
I'm embarrassed to say I haven't heard of 3/4 of the artists who are going to be playing. I'm feeling old. I thought I was cool to know Casting Crowns!   Guess I have a long way to go to catch up.
Thanks for sharing that website.
Tammy, did you see it?

OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH    AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH   that looks like a really terrific event too.  The time of year doesn't work for me, but maybe someday.  Hey Daph I knew 7 of the artists and I'm older than you.  Nah, nah, nah ,nah !!!   Glad my thread inspired you to get out some oldies but goodies.  I had forgotten about Stryper.  I have one of their..... ahem...LP's  I like a lot of those other artists mentioned too Twila, Amy, etc.

Katrina, welcome to TT.  I checked out your website- Your parents must be so proud to have such a terrific teenage daughter.  Seeing you are a 1/2 my age I feel kind of "hip" to like the same music
