I was about to sign up (again) for PayPal since most of you use the service and most of you seem very happy with it. I had a PayPal account some years ago but only used it for the few auctions I won on ebay. And they can't find me anymore and I have to re-establish myself. Anyway, I searched PayPal and came up with pages of stuff...many including sites like the following:

http://www.paypalwarning.com/

Seeing so many sites discussing the "horror" stories about PayPal, I just want to check again with all of you for your opinions. Do you think these complaints are legit? or made up? or what? Do you think it happens with purchasers more than sellers?

I'd appreciate everyone's advice...again. Thanks.

Marlys

Marlys, I've had PayPal for about 3-4 years and haven't had any problems with them.  I accept PP on my website for purchases, then use them for my occasional ebay buys.

Hi Marlys
Personally, I haven't had a single problem with PP and I have used it for almost every Ebay transaction since 2002.  I think no system is perfect and I would certainly follow all their hints to keep your account safe but overall I like PP. If you frequently buy from another country, you should be aware that their exchange rate is never what the actual bank rate is so you lose a bit.
By the way...is is pronounced  MARLISS or MARLEES? Just curious because I think its such a pretty name! bear_grin

Hi Marlys, I too have used paypal for 2 years (no problems-touch wood) I have both bought and sold using it, although everyone at work is very kind to point out the horrors, I remove my money asap or  more likely hubby wants something so I end up buying. The website I have to admit looked bad until I saw the bit at the bottom

For our paypal alternative click here

It actually turns out to be an advert for a free credit card terminal, I didn't read it and it could be genuine but why call paypal just to advertise your free product surely there is no need for that!!!!!
I would have to read the small print very carefully
Just my opinion, it could well be a great deal but life has taught me to be very cautious of everything

Anything you find online you have to take with a grain of salt.  Just like the recent post about legitimate businesses there are entire websites built to lure people in and then either scam them or phish for information.  The site you've listed here came up as a phishing site for me,  "The website you are trying to view is a phishing scam site that steals personal information.".   They know that good people will want to do some research before signing up for something like paypal so these con artists take advantage of that, create a site filled with concerns and issues...all the while they might be creating an even bigger issue than paypal ever could have.  This paypal alternative they advertised could be a scam used to drain your bank account once you've signed up......who knows!

As far as paypal goes I've had it for years and (knock wood) have never had an issue at all.  Most times it's people not fully reading the agreement of terms before clicking "ok" OR not reading about all of the account options available.

Hi Marlys,
I've had a Paypal account for 4 years and haven't had a single problem with them either.  I agree with what's been said here.  Be prudent and read through everything before you sign up with them, guard your passwords and even change them frrequently.
I also transfer most of the money out of my paypal account as soon as I'm paid for an item.   I just keep a balance of about $50.00, for "fun" money, if I see something I want to bid on.  Like Chrissi, I would be far more suspicious of the site you listed  - sounds like they are on the phishing expedition.  Take care.

                                   hugs,

                                   Brenda

I've used PP for years as well, with no problems. I usually transfer $ out of it and it usually takes several days for it to show up in my account. I can't think of any easier or safer alternative and I feel safer using it for buying things than giving out my credit card information.

Pay pal has been fine for me also. I don't think you need to be afraid to use it.

Thank you all for your input. I was thinking along the same lines as you all about the site I posted. I didn't open anything or look at any of their links. From everything people have said on TT, you all love PayPal and many of you use it exclusively. Just wanted to double check with my friends who I know will be honest with me about their experiences.

By the way...is is pronounced  MARLISS or MARLEES? Just curious because I think its such a pretty name!

Cheryl

Thank you, Cheryl.  It's pronounced more like MARLISS or MARLUS. My high school French teacher always called me MARLEES. However, over the years I've been called many things. I've even had a couple people ask me if I was sure my name wasn't Marilyn...like I wouldn't know my own name!

Thanks again everyone for your input on PayPal.
