Right now, I am thinking about going back to having a shop. Must be nutters, but keep thinking about it.
I can convert our 3rd garage into the shop with out having to do too much work, as the existing structure is there. Besides the normal bear making supplies, I also want to add my quilting fabrics, Nottinghamshire and antique laces.
I also have swiss voile,(batiste) and cot size woolen blankets.
All the quilting fabric is bear related, and suitable for bear clothing as is the lace etc.

These are two new bolts arriving from USA, these would be suitable for a large quilt, did not really need it but whenn ordering supplies saw them and thought they looked good.
At the moment here in SA girls are doing allot of embroidery using different mediums. I have taken the same idea, and instead of embroidering the bear, I am needle felting the bear onto the woolen blanketing I have. So far I am pleased with the results, will have to see how it washes. I am hoping that when placed in water the felting shrinks and gives a even finish.
I am used to keeping shop, first with two in a busy shopping mall, then one from a home base where my husband was living,so understand both the good and the bad with having a business.
My idea is to have all those things that people cant find locally, so that it will be a shop with a difference. I am able to stock it as I presently buy buy buy on all my travels.
In South Africa, many home based business's have appeared over the years, and customers have accepted this new way of shopping. Rentals for the one man show in a shopping mall are very high, and having staff, long hours does create headaches.
Well its something to think about, must be the middle aged hormones on a rampage.
Lynette
It sounds brilliant, low overheads etc, you know your market and have the experience
If you can make a go of it why not?
It sounds good to me Lynette. If things don't work out you can still sell through the internet, but I'm sure things will go just fine. As you said you will be selling all those things that people cant find locally so I can't see how you can fail. Just wondering, do you need a license or something in SA to set up a shop from your own property?
Hugs Jane.
Sounds exciteing !!! Good luck !!!
Firstly Lynette, move to Perth WA and THEN open shop.
GO FOR IT GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
