About three days back, Blossom decidedly grew!! She completely outgrew the handme down blankie that her Auntie Nancy sent, practically bursting at the seams in the course of one day. Sooo with the storms rolling in, I took off her beloved flysheet and let her go 'au naturel'. Blossom was less than enthused ~ particularly as the flies settled on her back and bum.
Here she is just yesterday. Look at how wide her chest is She's just turned two at the end of May. Awwhhh...my lovely girl is growing again
Sorry about the fence in the way, but if it didn't stop her, all you would see is nose prints and upcloses of her eyes Now the flies have gone from her bum to her back....tail in work session.
You can see she's soooo tired. Poor girl, with the rains she hasn't been able to lay down for a proper nap. Everything's gone squelchy. Remains of mulberry branches underfoot. She adores munching on the mulberry leaves!
I got the new flysheet for my birthday, and tried it on, but it was way too big. I put it back on her for teatime for a fitting, then took it inside for hemming. And now she's got a reasonably well fitting flysheet.
Its still a bit big around the belly, and unbelievably becoming too short from front to back all ready!! At least she should have a few months of relief with it before she outgrows it.
And it provides leg coverage for her upper legs.
I put a bit of lavendar oil on the flysheet before putting it on her. Blossom adores the smell, and the flies hate it. A win win situation. :)
And of course neck coverage. This one's got a bit of lycra between the neck cover and sheet itself, which means it bends and stretches with her as she reaches down for grazing and her buckets. The fit's okay, I just wish it didn't sweep back and put so much pressure on her shoulders as she walked. Blossom on the otherhand, will gladly take a little shoulder squishing if it means the flies stay off!
As we stood watching her move about, Eldon asked "What happened to our rough and rugged Native Pony?" She loves her comforts, and she's quickly found flysheets are comfortable. I haven't whispered a word to her about air conditioning, though I think she suspects.
She's beautiful and obviously spoilt
Yep, utterly spoilt
That's one gorgeous pony!!!
awwwww Blossom my sweetie I would spoil you too Reminds me of my welsh cob in the winter with his rug on and neck cover! Can't help spoiling our ponies
Give Blossom a hug from me
Catherine
Blossom is a very pretty girl Debbie and yes she is thoroughly spoilt with her flysheet.Although this time of the year can be the most miserable for horses as they hate the flys and those flysheets can make it more bearable outside for them.Mind you all my ponies need at the moment is an umbrella.
Laurie
 She'll adore all the hugs ~ she loves cuddles!
And I'd say the new flysheet's a hit with her, as she came running up for teatime. She couldn't do that with the other rug, it was much too tight in the shoulders. So knock on wood, its a reasonable fit
Ah yes, we started with 'winter clothing' and now we have a 'summer wardrobe'......my pony's clothing far exceeds my own wardrobe  The things we wouldn't do for our pets
Debbie, you are such a good horse mommy. All ponies should be so lucky.
Debbie,
she looks wonderful, her coat is so healthy looking, she really is a gorgeous girl!!
not at all obvious that she's very spoilt
Awww she is so beautiful, and so she should be spoilt too! She looks so funny in her flysheet he he, but never mind as long as she is comfortable.
Warm wishes
