Hi everyone,
I've been thinking of selling my patterns as I've had quite a few enquiries about it lately.
What's the best way to go about it? How much detail should I include in the instructions, ie. should I include photos of the different stages or is written instruction sufficient?
Most patterns do well written with just a few pictures to help explain. Most are hand drawn rather than photos, but if you give extensive written then it shouldn't be a problem.
Hi Catherine, just take a look at patterns that others have made and go by that. Looking at a pattern by a well know artist like Lisa pay would set you on track. Her patterns are made proffesionally and are an excellent guide.
Hugs Jane.
Hi Catherine, as I'm still learning I am only using other peoples patterns at the moment so I hope I can help you.
They all have a completed picture of the creation on the front and then list the materials needed. They then go through the instructions step by step. The basic instructions are fine in text, but anything additional e.g. how to embroider the paws, maybe nose template etc is really useful if sketched.
You can always run a pattern through me first (cheeky aren't I)
Hugs Ali x
Thanks everyone for your replies
Ali, thanks for volunteering to run through one of my patterns for me! I might just take you up on that
I've only ever followed one pattern before personally, as I started designing my own bears nearly straight away!
Oh well, looks like of got some work ahead of me here - I'm planning to release my cat and horse patterns as well as my 2 inch bear one. Wish me luck!
Good luck though I don't think you will need it really.
I think Ali had a good idea about 'testers' for your patterns. I know there are folks that can't follow a pattern or directions to save their lives(that would be me  ) and folks that get enormous pleasure in using patterns and get great results- I would find some of each and get an honest critique. I know Jane Perala here on TT has had great success with her patterns -maybe check with her? I'm sure you'll do great!
Cheryl
Thanks Bronwen
Cheryl - thanks for your advice too - sounds like a good idea to get a few people's opinion on the pattern/instructions.
Jane - I actually just found an old Lisa Pay pattern in my stash - so I'll have a look at that! My designs are very simple in comparison, but I'll still write out the instructions with a beginner in mind.
Thanks everyone for your help
