This is a stranger that flew into my garden the other week.
I realised something was up when I could hear all the fuss from the other parrots.
Unfortunately it was the only photo I could get and it never returned. Obviously an avairy escapee.
I hope he is safe.  I didnt get to post the pic straight away because I lost it in my files.
And yes that is real sun hitting those leaves.

from the beak he looks like some kind of conure. Did he have much of a tail?
I used to have a mitred conure and also blue-headed type conures.

Hey Matilda, 

You have a nice Red-winged Parrot there. I believe Red-winged's are actually native to Australia... Must be a little rare in your area  bear_original Depending on Rump and nape colouration, It could be a male, Female or juvenile.

From what I have read , they arent from down my way. No wonder I havent seen one before. He is certainly very pretty.

Pretty bird... and you did well to take a picture of him.
They have a habit of flying away before you can manage a photo.

I wished I had my camera with me the other day - we were out for a walk and a beautiful
tui was feeding from the nectar in a plant - so gorgeous and quiet.
