-fter chatting in the Tips and Techniques forum about bear design earlier today, it set me thinking ...

Would you like a design challenge, something a little bit different from the norm? If the answer is yes, this is my plan:

This challenge is for both newcomers to bear making and also confident bear makers.

I will post a side head pattern ... there will be no more information than that one pattern piece though!  You can print the pattern piece out, make it bigger than, smaller than the original, or even keep it the same size, the only rule is you must not alter the shape of the pattern.  Your challenge is to design the rest of the pattern for a bear yourself incorporating my side head pattern, then please share your finished results with us!

If you like the idea, please leave your name below and I'll get on with sorting out the side head pattern piece.  Let's give ourselves until the end of November for this challenge ... that way we still have time for a Christmas challenge too!  I will of course ask Quy if he would be kind enough to create a new gallery for our work.

With regard to selling your work afterwards, I don't have a problem with that, I just ask that you respect my request that you don't use my pattern piece for commercial design beyond your work on this particular challenge bear.  Thanks!  bear_thumb

Great ... enough interest already to get us started!

I won't actually take part myself in this challenge, that way you can all design freely.  I may show my finished bear at the end of the challenge for anyone who is curious!

I will email the pattern piece today to get you all started ... it will arrive as an attachment and you just need to print it out.  Have fun with your designing! I think this will be a fascinating challenge.  Please let me know if you have any problems with the attachment and I will try to sort another method of delivery to you.

I'd love to see the following pics when your bear is completed ...

If anyone else would like to participate, please let me know and I'll email the pattern piece to you.

Hi Paula,

Having only designed one sewn bear pattern so far this would be a wonderful challenge for me. Please include me.

Paula,
This sounds so cool - count me in!  Maybe this is what I need to get my head back around to bears.

Waaaay cool, Paula - I'm in - sounds like tons of fun.  I may not make the deadline, but I'll try.  Have a show Oct. 26, 27, 28, then visit a daughter after that, then my hubby's family is having a reunion after that.

Will there be a time limit on this Paula? I would like to have a go, but I can only do very little at the moment.
