Tonight I clicked on an email link that I thought was from my bank...why..oh WHY...oh WHY....it was addressed to me. I've seen the ones before that are just addressed, 'Dear Customer'...but this was addressed to me...although..I did miss the fact that it didn't have my full real name....just Jenny Johnson.
I realised as soon as I had done it and changed all my passwords and security numbers....AAAAAAAGH!!! I am one of these people who always says...'oooooh noooo I , would never be so daft as to do such a thing' but what did I do it for....don't ask me.
I rang the bank immediately and nothing had happened..imagine if I hadn't....it doesn't bear thinking about...I feel so foolish and stupid..and gullible and had!!
The bank told me that there is a rash of these things happening at the moment because all the banks are bringing in new tighter security for telephone and on-line banking and therefore the crooks are getting in first before these new measures come in.
If I had only checked I would have seen a huge notice on the business banking home page saying just that and warning users against these fraudsters....
Now I feel like a right idiot..a very lucky idiot!!!
Oh Jenny, thank goodness you realised what you had done. I guess it must have caught you off guard, never mind, I'm glad you got it sorted. How's your leg doing, are you going into work yet? I will be in Coventry next week, let me know if you'll be around. Take care.
Hugs, Jane.
I go cold every time I think of it!!! I keep thinking about what could have happened...thank heavens I realised!! My leg is still not so good..I have to sort bits out in the salon...as the new owner still hasn't taken over...so I am still in the hot-seat... (this has been going on since May!!) but I am doing as little as little as possible.. I have to go to hospital on Thursday.
Drop me an email when you're around Jane....I'm a bit stuck at the moment though..I can't even drive!!!
Ouch, glad you realised in time Jenny!! You're selling your salon!! I didn't know that...and your having trouble with your leg too I miss out on too much when I'm away! hugs to you   its horrible being grounded at home
Oh Jen, don't feel like an idiot....No one is more careful and paranoid than my hubby and he has opened email I wouldn't touch with a taser! So glad you realized it and took care of things!
Smart thinking, I think!

I definitely agree with Dilu! It all came out okay!
Jenny, it's so easily done. I had a similar email this week and it was just so plausible! I have a rule of thumb which says 'don't give details on anything asking you to login within an email', so I hit delete, but not before I'd hesitated first beccause I was almost convinced. The crooks are getting mighty accomplished these days. GRRRRR!!!!
All is well that ends well..thank heavens...I checked with the bank again today and I have de-registered for on-line banking now ..and am re-registering for the new system which requires a unique number each time you log on...so effectively no-one can hack into your account. I am so nervous now!! I can't believe I fell for it....what a twit I am!!! But it was so convincing..and I always tell myself they'll never catch me napping...ha!...they just did!!
They didn't get anywhere though!!
I don't think you can get into trouble just by clicking on the email. What they want you to do is click on a link and give your passwords, etc.
Today I got phishing emails from Paypal and also won two European lotteries!

Er, Marion..I didn't just click on the email...that's why I am an idiot. Still it's all sorted now and will never happen again..till next time!
