I just listed two bunnies tonight on Ebay - a mini Peter Rabbit and a realistic Bunny.  Right after they went up, a lady emailed me and wanted me to set a price for both of them and then cancel the listings.  I know this lady - she has been a customer before and I'm sure would have paid my reserve, but one of the bunnies has been requested by another new customer, whose been waiting for quite a while and I would feel really badly.  I know she might not end up winning, and I was at odds, especially with Ebay being slow, but I opted to say "no".  Am I crazy?

I generally have a philoshpy that fair is fair. She can bid on them just like the rest of your collectors or eBayers. If she wants them THAT bad then she'll bid to win, you can only hope. If for any reason they don't get bids or reserve isn't met THEN you can offer them to her once the auction is over. If you'd intended to sell them outright and not sell auction style you'd have put them on your website or Etsy shop, right?

Thanks Daphne and Sue Ann.  Somehow hearing from other artists helps to validate what I thought!

  And you can also tell her about the new customer waiting forever.  I agree with the others, fair is fair with the auction.   bear_flower

Thanks Deb.  You're right - I guess it was the unfairness of cancelling the auctions, that was bothering me.  Anyway, the lady has ordered a bunny (after all the talk of "no" orders LOL!)  I can work on it in the care on our trip to Disney.  In a perfect world, one would sell high through Ebay, and the customer could have the other one and then I wouldn't have to do an order

after I've already listed the bears I usually just say no.. even when I want to say yes.. it's a difficult one.. You don't know if they will go up more.. but I figure after the work to list the bears on ebay they might as well finish at auction. There might be collectors waiting to bid... and you don't want to disapoint them!

Hugs!

Brenda, I too agree with the others.  I would have kindly declined. It's flattering that someone wants them that badly but It wouldn't be fair to others who may be holding back to place a bid later in the auction.  Plus closing early would make people lose respect for your auction.

Wise choice.

I think you played fair, honesty and integrity go a long way in this world, especially when there seems to be so little of it, even in the bear world.

so 2 bear_thumb  for doing the honest thing.
