TTowl.jpgBLOGSundayowl2.jpgBLOGSundayowl1.jpgThe other morning I had a visitor to the garden. I could hear all this ruckess going on so went to investigate and found an owl hiding in the tree.
Well this afternoon while sitting quietly reading the paper the birds set off again with all their squawking and so I again went to investigate. Yep it was the owl again. So I went and got my camera and took some pics. The sun was full on and to the side of me so I was unable to see what I was aiming at but as you can see I did get at least one decent shot. Isn't he just beautiful??  Now I know the other birds won't go near the garden while he is there but there is no way I could shoo him away. He isn't even scared of me. I'm hoping he's after the mice that have taken up residence in the shed. They pop out for a feed of seed. I know this because I watch 'em bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin

I saw that it has been coming and going this afternoon. Which was good because I have been able to get a photo in better lighting conditions. I also took time to look him up and found that he is a 'BOOBOOK' owl  nicknamed 'Mopoke'. (they will make a bird watcher out of me yet. hehehe)

bear_thumb  Great visitor, that owl!
I am so glad you managed to get great photos of him!
Now you have an owl you can play Harry Potter! Time to find a wand and a broom!

Wow, what a handsome visitor Wendy...when I was a little girl there was a huge old owl in the tree outside and I was scared silly...too many bedtime stories with witches and owls I guess.
Thanks for letting us see your awesome visitor....see I'm a big girl now!  bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin

Those eyes! Wow!! We have an owl nesting on our property. Before the snow melted he was obviously starving and hung out by our feeders hunting squirrels and voles all day. (they are supposed to be nocturnal!) He was amazing... silent when he flew.... and in the night the eerie sounds he made would make my skin crawl. Now all I have to do is say "hoot" at the dogs and they go running to the slider window! So funny!

Owls are so amazing! Thanks for sharing pictures!!

Wendy: What a wonderful picture of your owl. I have one too and wonder if he hangs around because of the smaller bird feed around my house. I have to think "they have to eat too"....But like you said, let's hope his appitite is for mice....

He's a cute little guy . . . or girl, maybe.  I'm with Daphne - I'm surprised he/she is out mucking around in the daytime.  Nice shot, Wendy!

Wendy, he's lovely, but no wonder all the birds are chattering when they spot him.  They come to the feeders to "have" lunch and then they realize they could "be" lunch! LOL!  Hope your catches all your mice for you.

When we lived in Deep River, we had a Northern Shrike that would peruse the feeders.  You could tell when he was around, as all the wee birds took off screeching.  As Michelle says, everyone has to eat.

Chris....DO PLEASE TAKE PHOTOS OF YOUR OWL? I would love to see it!!!!
Daphne...You are sooo funny... this owl is very silent when coming and going also. It is only the little birds getting upset that I know he has returned. He so far hasn't made a sound. So I don't know what his hoot is like. Other than what they said on the webpage where I looked him up. Apparently his call is....'Boo Book..Boo Book'  bear_grin that's why they named it a ...yes you guessed it...BOOBOOK.
Marion ...it is difficult. bear_grin

Thanks for letting us see your awesome visitor....see I'm a big girl now!

  yes we believe you Jane...you're all growded up now! bear_grin
Michelle..... Do we get to see your owl!!!???? please take a photo.?
Did I remember to tell you all that my garden is only a small courtyard.....? I friends who have games rooms the size of my backyard bear_grin
