Do you remember me posting about our house we bought a little over one month ago?
Well, this same house ended up being flooded last saturday.
Saturday afternoon, a little before 2pm, we had shower heavy rain for over one hour. I never witnessed so long shower rains like that.
The problem is that all taht water was not properly evacuated and it quickly transformed our street into a river.
The level of water reached almost 90 cm in the middle of the road.
In my house, the level reached over 50 cm everytwhere in the first floor.
The water stayed there quite a very long time and may have taken the whole night to leave totally.
It left a beautiful thick layer of mud everywhere.
Needless to say that the rest of the week-end was busy for everyone in the street, cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.
Our two cars were filled with water enough to cover the sits and even more. I don't know whether we can save mine. Malko's one can be saved.
In the house, results could have been worse, as Malko managed to save the firdge, washing machine and dish washer plus a few smaller devices.
A few of our cheaper pieces of furniture are dead.
i will post a photo report about it all when i find time for it (it may not be before a few days).
Such a flood has not happened since 1961 in the village. Fingers corssed that it will never happen again.
But please, all of you, if this has to happen to you, first drive your car in a safe place before trying to save anything else! We were stupid to concentrate on the things inside the house when the water began to come inside the house and totally forgot the cars.
Beary hugs,
Sophie.
Oh Sophie, how awful for you, I hope you managed to save a few personal items, most things can be replaced but piccies etc
Good point about the cars though they are the most expensive thing we own, yet we often forget them.
Will be thinking of you, I hope it doesn't take to long to put things right and don't let it spoil how you feel about the house
Oh Sophie, I am so sorry to hear that your beautiful house has been spoiled by rain. I can't imagine how sad you must feel right now, especially after showing us your pictures of your new home that you are obviously so proud of. I do hope that you and Malko can put right what has been damaged. I hope you car can be fixed too. What a shame!
Big hugs to both of you. Hugs, Jane.
Oh no, that is terrible. I hope it didn't ruin too much. Sending you a big hug!
Hugs,
Melanie
Oh Sophie no!! Really shocked to hear about the flooding in your beautiful new home. How awful!! Its a lot of work for you, just when you had it so pretty. Thinking of you both

Sophie, I am so sorry to hear about this flood! What a mess for you all. I hope you're able to clean everything out and have your house back to normal soon. Thank you for the warning about the cars!
Oh, Sophie! I'm so sorry about your flooded house...and you'd just moved in and started making it yours. I would not have thought about moving cars to higher ground; that's good advice. I hope you're able to salvage most of your things and I hope you didn't lose any special mementos.
So sorry to hear this happened to you, how sad!
Will be thinking of you! I'm sure the clean up will not be much fun.
Oh what an awful thing to happen - I am so very sorry! I do hope you were able to save the things that had the most importance for you in the house. I'm afraid I wouldn't have thought about the cars, either. Hope the cleanup doesn't take forever and that your house will be better than ever.
OH NO!! I can't even imagine the mess. Thank you for the tip about the cars. I never would have thought to do that either! Probably most of us wouldn't have.
Wishing you energy and good thoughts to help you get through it!
Warmest bear hugs,

Oh Sophie - what rotten luck - that's awful! One of those times when we realise how powerless we are against Nature, and it's scarey. We got flooded a couple of times when we first moved into this (rented) house, and it is NOT nice. Altho' it turned out that ours was a man-made (or not) disaster...........what we didn't know was that this place was built "on the black" (ie CHEAP) - and the drain out hadn't actually been connected to the main drains! Good - or what?!
you really have my sympathies......
huggies
Maria
Sophie that is just awful for you! I can totally sympathize as we got flooded here the first spring in our new dream home - had water 6 inches deep in the basement for over a month and took a long time to get it all fixed. We have to worry about flooding every spring but have put in lots of measures to reduce the impact. I hope it doesn't take you too long to get it all sorted out and that you didn't lose anything irreplaceable. Sending you lots of hugs!
how awful....I hope your insurance covers this?
I remember years ago when a fire threatened our house. I grabbed the dogs (and puppies), cats, and family pictures and tax information and of course, the kids. I totally forgot my purse and had a heck of a time replicating id's. A neighbour did remind me about the car or I would have left that too! There are a few more things I should have taken out that I miss but overall, saving the pictures (and the kids) was more important. Take care!

Oh Sophie
How awfull for you.
We saw it in the news. happened to Germany too
sending lot of hugs your way

Sophie I am so very sorry!! This happened to my hubby as a child in the early 70's in the Chicago suburbs. To this day he gets almost uncontrollably anxious whenever there is a lot of rain.
Oh NO!!! That's such a shame as you'd just gotten your home as you like it. I'm so sorry this has happened Sophie, but what a SuperMan Malko is for saving all those appliances
Wow he must be strong to shift all those heavy appliances like that!!
I would have completely forgotten the cars too in the hurry to save the things in the house  Let's hope your insurance company will help to sort your car
Oh no Sophie
I have only read this now and what an awful thing to have happen when you have only just moved into your house.
I hope that you have things sorted and cleaned and back to normal.
Hugs
Carolyn
Eeeeek, Sophie, NO!! What awful luck.....hugs
How awful, Sophie! Glad to hear you're ok. Sending you hugs.
Sophie, I am so sorry to hear this, I was in France in the Provence just over a week ago and they too had really heavy rain and we saw some villages under water and cars deep in water. This must be so hard for you after you have just moved in, sorry about your cars. Take care and I hope the clear up goes ok. Sending lots of hugs, Catherine xx
