I'm guessing some of you may have heard about the massive rainfall and resulting flooding going on in the Midwest.  We are so wet, the ground is completely saturated with standing water everywhere.  (And the flooding is forecast to get worse with more rain coming this next week.)  Then last night, we had more rounds of storms.....severe stuff/tornado warnings missed us by a few miles, thankfully, though the heavy rain did not.  Water started pouring into our basement from the floor drain early this morning, and my mom had just called to wake us up as their basement was flooding too.  Anyway, we've all been cleaning up wet messes today, helping each other as much as we can, and at first it got me down.  Not again......aargh!! bear_angry  I am so sick of having to deal with this......it's been an annual thing for three years now.  Then I was looking through our local news channel website, and found a slide show of pictures from the EF5 tornado that destroyed much of Parkersburg, Iowa on May 25th. (Many of you may have heard about that too)  The sheer amount of devastation and realization that these people lost so much........some even their lives or loved ones......helped me to remember that we are fortunate, even with that water in the basement.  At least we still have homes to clean up!  That tornado could have wiped out our town.......they can happen anywhere.....you don't know if your town or home will be the next in a powerful tornado's path.  In fact, that storm popped up right over us that day, and we watched it building until it was out of sight to the east.  I remember thinking, "Wow, somebody's going to get a bad one...."  I had no idea at the time how correct I was.........it's so scary. bear_sad  Thank God that tornadoes this severe are rare.

I don't post much on TT anymore, as I just don't have time lately to spend on the forums, but wanted to share this today and remind everyone how lucky we are even when nasty things happen to us.  Not to minimize the misfortunes of anyone, as I know that our personal tragedies/circumstances can be devastating to us.  But it can also usually be worse, and I know that I certainly needed a reminder of that today!  In a backwards way, this reminder made me feel much better about my own lot in life.  Here is a link to the tornado damage slideshow if anyone wants to see it: http://www.kcci.com/slideshow/slideshow … etail.html  The area looks like a huge bomb was dropped on it.......I just can't imagine how it must be for the people of that town.  It's heartbreaking!  I heard on the news that there are fund raisers going on now to help the town......I've got to look to see how we can contribute.......

Here's a few pics I snapped last night as the storms were rolling through.  One is a wall cloud that was being watched closely, but thankfully never developed a tornado.  The last one is of a huge rainbow that I only got part of in the photo........I told Darren our pot of gold was under that tree, but he wouldn't go look.  Said he didn't want to get wet bear_tongue  bear_whistle ............

Yes, I've been keeping up with all the flooding and damage from tornadoes in the Midwest - it's terrible.  We had a lot of it down here in the very early spring.  I'm relieved that you and your family have only a flooded basement to contend with - as bad as that is.  Mother Nature can surely be a monster in some instances.  Hope there are no more disasters coming up this week.

  Thanks ladies!  I'll try to stop by and actually say something more often!   I have been busy, some with bear work and new designs/techniques, and also with family, my flower beds (can't do much there now....too wet!), home improvement projects, puppy training, etc.  Now, of course, we have flooding mess to deal with again. There just aren't enough hours in the day!  Someday this merry-go-round will slow down a bit.....then I'll probably be bored! bear_grin In the meantime, I will be perfectly happy for a series of dry days and no scary storms.
