Hubby and I seem to be disagreeing about the computer a lot these days and to be honest, he probably has a point.  I do get sidetracked when I'm online and can waste way too much time.  Hubby is really a sweet guy, but he's not creative and like most men, doesn't understand the female need to socialize and discuss everything.  However, I am very stubborn and the minute someone asks me not to do something, you know what I'm going to do!  bear_tongue

So, I had to find a solution and I'm actually typing on it bear_grin    I stumbled across the EEE PC, a tiny wireless computer that is sort of a bridge between something like the Blackberry and a full size computer  and the price of only $399.00!  It's 9 inches and has a 7 inch screen, about the size of a mini DVD player.  The version I bought also has a web camera, so my best friend and I can still do show and tell over the computer.  It has a full keyboard, and although it's small, I have tiny hands and it's not a problem for me, although I could see it being a problem for men with large hands etc.

So, after a bout with my conscience, I decided that anything that keeps the peace is worthwhile.  I will keep it in my studio and it will be my little secret.  I can check my email or blog or even TT every once in a while, all without leaving my studio!  I can also bring it downstairs and browse, after he's asleep!  Peace at last!  bear_innocent

Hi Sue,
I think a lot of us have the same problem - hubbies everywhere are being abondoned for the computer  bear_grin Funny thing is, I sort of agree with my hubby  bear_shocked  bear_shocked but I just don't like being nagged all the time - THAT'S MY JOB  !

Sue  Ann,
Hubby has a Dell laptop on the way, but we don't fight over who gets the computer, as he doesn't spend all that much time on line.  Teddy-talk is really one of the issues.  He just doesn't understand the importance of connecting with other creative people online or how I can talk to people I've never met "in the flesh".  He thinks it's a huge waste of time! bear_shocked

                                          hugs,

                                          Brenda

Are you living in my house  Echo's of those words are a aringing round here, I even let him use the comp first and cook his tea at the same time, what more do they want bear_wacko Oh yeah undivided attention

As I always say you would not own a house, have milk in the fridge nor alot of things if I was solely sat at your feet dribbling on your every word bear_grin

Good for you on the comp issue, now if I tell him a laptop would mean I could sit next to him all night do you think it would work bear_thumb

I had to laugh Brenda with you craftily sneaking in with your new computer bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin I have visions of you trying to hide it as fast as possible as soon as he appears in the room.
Men do get jealous if they don't get enough attention but us women have so much to do they just have to be patient and wait their turn in the queue bear_tongue
I am lucky hubby doesn't mind me coming on teddy talk for a chat-if he does moan I just remind him about the amount of time he spends chatting to his customers and why he never seems to get his round done(he is a postman)and also I have to come on the computer to rest my eyes after all the close up sewing I have to do  bear_whistle

Sue,
Maybe you should give the laptop a try - you never know! bear_grin

Laurie,
Yes, I do have pangs of guilt but I'll get over it!
Here's a link to the webpage for them.  I think they developed out of the goal of an inexpensive way to have "one computer for every child" worldwide.  They would be perfect for a school age child - lots of neat things on here.  Apparently, lots of other companies are developing them as well.  Because of their small size, they are classified as "netbooks" rather than "notebooks".  They are neat, though.

Cool, way to go girl!!! Hey how do you like your EEE PC, I have been thinking about getting one of those. Are you happy with it....
I love how small and light weight they are, hubby has an old laptop and the thing is so heavy!  bear_angry

Hi Tami,
So far, so good - I love it!  I've only been online with it since yesterday!  I deliberately got the one with Linux, as Linux isn't as prone to viruses as Windows, as who has time to make viruses when there are so few Linux systems around    Same sort of thing as Macs - they don't get as many viruses targeted at them either.
I was going to wait to see if they dropped in price with new models being released all the time, but I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find one with Linux, as the newer EEEpc's are coming pre-loaded with Windows, and as everything with Microsoft, now that Windows is established with the EEE's,  everything else seems to get swallowed up.
You can buy a Linux and then load Windows yourself, if your not happy with Linux- it has all the instructions to do it, but I'm not interested.  I just want this for browsing and sharing pics.  You know, KISS - Keep it simple stupid - that's me!
The interface is so simple to use - nice big icons for everything - really easy for kids to use.   I also like that when you click the "help" button" in the top right hand corner, tons of info comes up about basic possible trouble spots.
My son-in-law set up the wireless for me and I guess he forgot to click the box, that says "automatically enable WiLan each time it starts".  As a result, I have to connect to our wireless each time I start it, (only a click of a button) but I was able to figure it out myself by reading the help section and he will fix it when he comes to pick up our grandson tomorrow.
I haven't played with photos yet - you just put your memory card directly into the computer.  I'm not sure if it comes with a photo program or not, but I have a photobucket account and that has a photo editing program and somewhere in my research, I read directions on how to download GIMP to my one.
I have the EEEpc 4G 701, that comes with a web camera.  The 2G and 4G Surf models don't have the webcam.  There are also lots of newer models coming out for more money, but with more memory and slightly larger size, but this is perfect for what I need and I don't find the key board too bad, after a full day of typing on it.  I do find the touch pad slower, as I'm not used to it, but I plugged in an old Dell mouse we had, and it worked like a charm, so I'm a happy camper!  It is a lovely size and weight, and easy to take outside etc or on holiday etc.   I think for the money it cost, it's worth every penny.

                                        hugs,

                                        Brenda
