HPIM1036.jpgI just thought I would share with you a bit of what I face everytime I step out the door.  These are just a few of the strays that have made their home here.  There actually are many more (about 20 total).  Black seems to be the main color scheme around here.  I guess it's a good thing I'm not superstitious.  Every day I have several black cats cross my path, wrap around my legs, climb in my lap etc. etc. etc.  The little one in this picture showed up here on Thanksgiving day with his little brother (also black).  They were in such an awful shape.  The brother was just so far gone, he didn't make it.  Since his brother died,  we have taken to calling this little one "The Baby".  Well enough of my sharing.  I'm off to feed the critters.

Millie,
Black cats are the most wonderful creatures - we've had five all black cats over the years and they were always my favourites.  I'm so glad they have someone to feed and love them in such cold weather.  THANK YOU -  you are a gem.

Looks like there is a black kitty (male, female, or both) around your area that is extremely promiscuous.  Probably lots of inbreeding, too.  You're definitely a much admired lady . . . a friend to animals in need.

Well done Millie, what would happen to the poor kitties without you to care for them. Where do they shelter in the cold weather? I would probably have a kitty barn built, just a little one, well more like a shed really, but I'm daft like that.
Hugs to you for your kindness, hugs, Jane.

Jane,

These cats are not lacking for shelter.  We have a large barn with lots of hay for them to bed down in, but they tend to hang out on our enclosed back porch.  They are a bit spoiled.

Sue Ann,

There may be a kitty factory around here, but I'm trying to shut it down.  Once they become part of my family, they are spayed or neutered.  Actually in this photo there is The Baby, Malcolm, Mia, Jag and Pip.  Mia came here very pregnant.  She is the mother of Jag, Pip and Val (all black).  As soon as the kittens were weaned, Mia took a trip to the vet.  Then the kittens took the trip later.  My vet is very good to help me out with the strays by giving me a discount.

Millie,
Thank goodness for the kindness of some vets that are willing to help wonderful people like you, and give animals a fighting chance by spaying/neutering them. They are so much healthier and live longer, not to mention fighting less.  I'm sure the cats are spreading the word about your house - I can hear them now "there's this cool lady who loves us and feeds us and takes care of us and if she takes you in, you have a home for life"  bear_grin
Thank you for all the cats and other animals you have helped

Millie - you are an absolute STAR
I guess there are quite a lot of us who would do the same, given the opportunity.........but hats off to you, and lots of "Brownie points" from St. Francis!
Nearest we ever got to this was a few years back, when we lived in France, just across the border from Geneva. there must have been a secret "cats welcome" sign by the gate, and we acquired one new cat per year........by the time we moved on ( to Holland) we were faced with a ten-hour drive with six cats, an Irish Wolfhound and a Leonberger in the car.........an unforgettable journey!
big huggies
