Hi all!

This issue is much smaller, but word still needs to be spread!

This problem is about Canidae All Life Stages dry food.  This is what I used to feed my whippets until today.  It made my Girls sick.

I was having particularly persistent problems with one of my girls.  Daphne started doing a search for something else about the food and found that people were having problems with the food!

When I heard that someone else's dogs had the exact same symptoms as mine, then I knew it was the food that was the problem!  Also just had her checked out by the vet to be sure it wasn't illness or parasites.

If you're interested, I posted about it on their blog - just want to spread the word!

And thanks for the help Daphne!!

Hi Laura Lynn,
If I might recommend a food for you to look into.

I feed the kibble to my dogs and cats. I have spent countless hours reading and researching the pet food industry and our methods for vaccinating our pets.
Hope your dogs are feeling better soon. bear_original

Hi Laura, sorry to hear that Athena got sick. Thank goodness that you have found out the cause and changed their diet. I saw a program on TV a while back about what goes into some dog foods and I was horified. I now am very careful what my dogs get to eat and they are much better for it. I just love the names of your dogs and really enjoyed my visit to their blog, what a wonderful family you have Laura, they all look such happy dogs.

Hugs, Jane.  bear_flower  bear_flower  bear_flower

Your whippets are beautiful! We had a whippet when I was a kid, my uncle bred them and gave us one. What a wonderful dog he was. I'm glad you found the reason for your dogs illness. I'm real careful with what I give my standard poodle. He gets a raw, free range food that's made close to home, and a wholesome kibble with organic ingredients. Nothing from China!

Thanks so much Angela!  The most frustrating thing about this is that we switched them over TO this food after the dog food scare because they only use US ingredients.. made in California.
nothing from China or any other country for that matter...

I think they grew too big too quickly because of the dog food scare.... LOTS of people had switched to Canidae after that and the demand for their food just grew too quickly for them  bear_cry

The topic of pet food drives me crazy.  Luckily our very own Cyndee gave me a wonderful education about it, which I'm forever in her debt.    It's horrid when you use a food and then they change it.  I have  diabetic cat that can only eat certain types of food.....and when I find a good one they always end up changing the formula.  Pet food really needs to be regulated better.

Along with human food!  Its appalling what ends up in the grocery store or pet food market  bear_ermm

Thanks for the heads up  bear_thumb

I work in a pet supply store and we were told by a Canidae rep that dog food companies don't have to tell the public that they have changed the formula in their foods till 6 months after they have changed it!
That seems so wrong to me. Maybe they don't HAVE to by law but morally I think they should!

Seems wrong to me too Beth!!
What's the point waiting if pets are dropping dead and or getting sick! Makes no sense to me. Just makes me mad! bear_angry

Kinda like last year when I got word through the horsey grapevine that certain batches of Purina's Equine Senior were tainted and being recalled.  I got the codes and numbers so when I went to the feedstore, I could ask directly where their batches came from and see the tags for myself.  The feed store fella was mad  bear_angry  that I was informed and prepared against this!  bear_shocked

And to be honest?  I never bought from him again.  Other feed store sellers when I queried, they weren't put off one little bit.  They told me right up front where their batches came out of, how often and how fresh.

I know they don't want to panic owners and scare them from buying, but when a company does this, and its kept in the quiet like that, well then you begin to wonder/worry about what else they're doing.  And I'm not going to knowingly endanger any of my animals to line someone's pocket.
