Hi guys,
It seems like forever since I've been on Teddy Talk.  We've been so busy with activities with the kids.

My neighbor called me this morning asking if I knew of a bird rescue because a baby falcon fell from it's nest in her yard.  I had to walk over and take a few pics.  We've been watching momma for months, hunt our street.  I believe she is a peregrine falcon.  I hope that the rescue comes and gets her baby soon!  When they do, I'm going to ask if my family can sponsor it and if they can release it back into our neighborhood.  I'm keeping an eye out for it meanwhile.  We have a crazy neighbor who has 19 cats that she allows to roam freely.  I don't want this baby to be breakfast.  Isn't it the cutest???

Hugs,
Alison

Awwwhh, beautiful!!!!  bear_wub  bear_wub   I did similar with a baby kestrel last year.  I corralled our cat and kept watch over it til Miss Kestrel could retrieve her baby.

Be alert to small birds too.  I know it sounds silly, but our songbirds were taking full advantage, trying to harm the baby kestrel.  Poor thing was so frightened!  bear_cry

I sincerely hope they can come quickly!!!  Peregrines are so endangered, and babies dehydrate so quickly

kestrel.jpgI just dropped this little guy at the wildlife rescue.  It is a kestrel.  Anyhow, it's in very good hands now and it will soon be transported to a foster home.

I have made a donation to sponsor the bird.  Hopefully, I will get updates.  I did ask that it be released in my neighborhood if possible.  They said that if they thought it was a good location, it would be possible.  I'm thinking it's a pretty good location since they are living and breeding here.  They are really amazing birds.

Hugs,
Alison

Hi Alison,  It was good you stepped in when you did, this poor little guy would have been dinner for your neighbor's cats for sure.  This bird was just too young for mama to care for from the ground.  We have them in our neighborhood too right in the city.  They are such beautiful birds.  Where did you have to take him?  Where is the game and fish dept at?

There is a falcon nest on top of the Eastman Kodak building in Rochester, NY.  They put up a nesting box to attract them.
There are four live webcams focused on the box 24 hours a day throughout the nesting season.  You can go to their website and see them any time, day or night.  It is very cool!

Just remember one thing...  Falcons hunt live prey.  Usually pigeons and things.
Aside from the conservation aspect, one reason to attract falcons is to control the pigeon population.  Otherwise they become pests and spread disease.

So, keep that in mind.  Once the eggs hatch, the male and female falcons take turn bringing dinner home to the babies.  That means you get to see a live pigeon dismembered and eaten, live on the internet.
That's nature...  Right?  But, if you can't stomach the sight, be careful when you tune in.
