You may, or may not, know that Texas has been having devastating wildfires during the last several weeks.  Severe drought and extremely windy conditions have made a tinderbox of all but the eastern portion of the state.  One of biggest and hardest to contain fires is about 75 miles to the west of where I live.  This is a photo taken Sunday evening at a nearby park.  The smoke and ash from the fires cause an eerie orange glow in the sky.  Beautiful, but certainly a very destructive atmosphere.

Ah SueAnn, I definitely know how you're feeling. We get that every year here in Australia. This past Summer though, was very unusual. Everywhere stayed green and we never got that feeling, when we had go out time after time during the day to scan the skies. AND I only saw ONE snake! It was kind of a wierd summer.... bear_ermm

I haven't been watching the news lately or or sure I would have known.  This is bad news.  I know wildfire season doesn't start here quite yet.  I hope that this is not a summer preview.  Did you have much rain this winter there?

I am glad that you are not in the danger zone, SueAnn!    I do hope they get the fire under control soon.
A beautiful picture, but not when you know the story behind it.  bear_shocked

Even here in Belgium it is exceptionally dry and hot for the time of the year.

I hope they can get the fires under control soon.  I remember the sky on my high school graduation in Canada.  There were forest fires in the north of Saskatchewan, and the smoke had made it all the way down to us in the south, it was very weird.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments.  Joanne, we had very little rain last fall/winter . . . usually when we get the bulk of our moisture (along with spring, also).  Consequently that and the unusually strong winds have combined to wreak havoc for weeks, now.  A good day today - cooler temps and low winds.

Nature is weird at times - showing beauty in the skies but showing absolute hell on the earth when such fires are the cause.  I cannot think of anything worse.  I'm pleased it is not in your area, not that I would like it to be in anyones area at all.  It's amazing what people have to live with and put up with isn't it, and this past year has certainly seen some very tragic acts of nature.

Keep safe.

Hugs
