funny i shop from intercal every week and i never thought to look for anything on their site other than mohair lol
im not sure what size it need, so this is confusing, i only use 1" and 1" 3/4 discs, they seem to have the same hole size
i will try Lowes
anyone have a pic of one so i know what to look for? intercal had no pictures of them

I'm getting tired of using cotter pins, they are a pain in the butt! lol I bought the cotter pin tool which is worthless.
I see people use a screw and nut? or bolt? Is this something i can buy at a hardware store?
Can you tell me what exactly its called so i know what to ask for?
Thanks so much bear_original

I am half way through finishing a bear with a curly matted semi sparse 1" Mohair. I brushed it out and it looks beautiful brushed, nice and fluffy, but it doesnt last long, it falls flat pretty quickly and then i have to brush it again.
Is there a trick to making it stay nice and fluffy? without having it fall flat on me?

RainbowBits

I tried the dart today, and it worked, i got a rounder head now  bear_thumb
thanks so much  bear_grin

RainbowBits

Thank you both :)
I am going to try the dart technique

RainbowBits

Thank you all so much :)
So i only dart the gusset? on each side of the gusset, on the wider sides?
This is my latest girl, this is the first time i didnt use a pattern and did my own, her body came out a bit smaller than i intended, but a dress hides it  bear_grin
This is before i knew about the darts, so she came out a bit triangle..it suits her, but i would like to have rounder heads in the mix also :)

Will a wider gusset make for a rounder head?

RainbowBits

Her color is great!

RainbowBits

Oh hes adorable! What a darling face  bear_thumb
and i love his paw pads  bear_wub
I know how you feel, i look around at all these gorgeous high quality made bears and then i show mine and i cringe a little lol
Cute as a button!

RainbowBits

They are all so perfect! I love them all..#4 is my favorite  bear_wub

RainbowBits

Awww she is so adorable! and I love the name bear_original

I'm new to this too, and i chose traditional cotter pin joints with the hard board discs basically for longevity. I have some bears from 1905-1910 that are cotter pin jointed and if they can hold up for that amount of years im sticking with them..even though they are really hard to do.
With plastic, i dont believe they will outlast cotter pins, but i make bears for shelf use only, not for play..well accept by me  bear_whistle

RainbowBits

Gee i cant wait to start plucking  bear_grin
The nose hair remover made me chuckle, but thats a good idea!

RainbowBits

Hi, I was curious how to pluck mohair, do i use tweezers and pluck like i would eyebrows? Do the hairs come out easily?
