Hello everyone,
On packing and insurance... I have been working in a UPS Store for the last 2 years and now I am working with my former boss in our new business "SOHO Services" we ship FedEx and US Postal.
FedEx when shipping ground is 15% less than UPS Ground in price and depending on weight is less than the post office. FedEx and UPS atomically come with $100 insurance. (FedEx maybe your cheaper choice. FedEx Air & International is also better in price than UPS).
That said you can add more insurance but if your packing materials and box don't meet the standards set and your critter is damaged you may not get your money back.
Use a new box or a box with no dents, damage or ripped areas, pack only in peanuts or Styrofoam. Your box should bounce when dropped, you must tightly pack your critter, if it moves in the box when you shake it - you need more packing.
Tissue and a plastic bag are great for water damage. If you pack in newspaper or brown paper and your critter is damaged you are out of luck, paper of any kind is not considered packing. Paper flattens when something heavy is set on top of it – your critter has no protection plus paper is heaver than peanuts. I have seen many insurance claims through UPS refused because the item was packed in paper and or a “used box.
Tracking with FedEx and UPS is automatic, Postal is extra. When shipping FedEx and UPS if your package is lost (both have good delivery records) and you insured the contents you get your money back pretty quickly. USPS good luck with that! Especially if you don’t insure, add delivery confirmation – anything with a bar code. With none of the mentioned there is no way to track your box.
Did you also know that postal once it leaves the USA is not insured? Insurance is only good from drop off to where it leaves the country. If you are sending to say 3rd world country (no offense to anyone) for example if customs seizes it or it is “lost there is nothing you can do. I’ve seen this happen to a customer of mine.
Pack well and in good boxes, insure with tracking and you’ve done your best.
P.S. If your customer wants you to send it without insurance make them acknowledge that in writing!

It's been a long time since I've been on Teddy Talk.
After 23 years of making bears I retired, or quit making bears if you like that better.
Fifteen of those years I presented tours to Europe for artists and collectors; during those years we showed the world that we were one big family.
I was in this world when artists and collectors were great friends, everyone supporting each other.
Twenty plus years ago I watched the Doll world become cut-throat, everyone being jealous of the next artist. Is this now the bear world?
Contests are contests. The true measure of your creations is the smile on your customer’s faces when they buy your creations.
The URSA contest clearly stated that it was popularity. The internet is a great tool when used in the right way. It can be used maliciously by those that choose to find a way around what is right.
I believe in honesty first and last and everywhere in between.
We all have personal and professional choices, use them wisely.
I miss the Teddy Bear World… but reading all of this I’m almost 100% glad I’ve moved on to other things.
I’m signing my name to this, I’m not anonymous.

Donna,
Yes my patterns are copyrighted. BUT if you or anyone asks me if they can use them that's another story.
Asking like you did Donna will get you everywhere with me. Yes use my patterns, I would appreciate credit for the design... "Design by Neysa A. Phillippi of Purely Neysa" made by Donna... would be fabulous!!! Ask and you shall receive!
Why publish a pattern if not to have someone make them. Making them for sale or resale without permission is against the copyrights laws.
Please make mine and enjoy... credit for me too is great!
I will still be around but not making bears. If all goes well and the economy comes back... like in 2 or more years I'll be back.
Check out my site everything is on sale... no reasonable offer refused. Some things I have for sale are not on my site. Email for more information.

Good Morning,
Does your state have a "Use Tax" - find out it may save you money in the future.
What is "Use Tax" if you are an artist or anyone in business and purchase things online or out of your home state for your business and don't pay sales tax you are subject to "Use Tax" in your state. "Use Tax" is a way for your state to collect tax on items purchased out of state.
This does NOT apply to things bought for resale. It's on things like computer equipment, office supplies, tools, etc. - the other things you buy and don't pay tax for - for your business.
Go to your states revenue - sales tax site and do some research. It may save you big money in interest and sales tax payments to your state. All states do not have "Use Tax" to my knoweldge.
With our government spending so much money, states are looking for ways to collect more from small businesses, keep ahead with the knowledge of "Use Tax" and save in the end.

Good Morning,
The October Issue of www.bearsandbuds.com is now up, with a newer look. We are improving monthly!
Also the 3rd installment of my Needle Felting column is up. It's the beginning of a wire armatured cat project.
Enjoy!
Neysa
P.S. All my wool batt in stock is on sale. Email me at neysa@purelyneysa.com for price and availability.
Good Morning,
I've heard you can over felt too. When you do the wool breaks up as the fibers are all chopped or cut up by the needles. It's never happened to me and I felt hard.
Congratulations to the ladies with critters going for the URSA Awards. My Needle Felting Column on www.Bearsandbuds.com is back up and running. It's for beginners now, next month my first project will start.
Neysa
Good Morning!
Thank you, Elvis was fun, what better name; now I'm working on a Basset Hound. His head will come out farther and his ears will hang out and down over the frame. His backing is cross stitch canvas. I'll do him the same as Elvis.
Tami, give me some more info. on when we met, was it in Columbus?
Neysa
B. how's the knee?
Side view
Good Morning,
My latest, what do you think?
The velour upholestry fabric is stretched on a canvas stretcher board, and then I placed 1 inch nu-foam (a 1 inch batt sheet used for pillows) into the frames back so I would have something for my needled batting to stick to.
Neysa
Jared, I do sell through the mail visit my site, NZ roving is sold out have most others. Neysa
Jared, How about Louisville? I have needles , foam and wool batt.... foam and batt on sale. neysa
Good Morning, Jared just go for it, needle the wool into the face or muzzle try all the different sized needles and see which works best for you. I like using a 40T but a 36 or 38 will work to. You have to be a little more careful poking so you don't break the needle. Just keep adding layers until you get the look you want. Neysa
Good Morning,
I've been gone a long time. I'm back I hope regularly now. I missed being here.
An announcement has just been made by BearsandBuds.com, I'm back as Contributing Editor and my Felting Column will resume! I'm happy about this and I'm looking forward to you all joining and submitting photo's and articles.
The site has done so well we needed more people to handle it all. I feel privileged and happy to be working with Valerie Rogers again on the site.
I'm still selling wool batt and needles, email me privately for unadvertised sale and special prices.
Neysa
Glue and felting.... needles break too easily.
I like the pin idea, Start your toe pad on your foam work base. With your needle and a small amount of batt tack it to the foam just needling it in once. twirl or wrap the batt around the needle (using the needle) and poke it into the foam. Do this a few times and you have the start to a toe paw. Then atach it to the bear and continue felting. Make sense??? Neysa
Good Morning, My understanding has always been vinegar sets the dye. If you have clothing that when washed bleeds color a very small amount to the rinse sets the dye and the color should not bleed . Dying????? I'd like to hear more. Neysa
Ladies, if you go back to the first pages of the needle felting form, we that were here in the beginning had a lot of discussions that may help the newbees.
Page 3 "Wool batt verses wool roving" explains the differences.
Hope this helps. I love to look there for ideas.
"batt" it's clean wool the is fed through the carding machines just a few times so that the fibres are going in all directions. "Roving" is clean wool that if fed through the carding machine multiple times and "combed" so all the fibres are going in one direction... note how you can see this in the picture. Roving is what spinners use they just pull strands from the roving to spin. I like batt better for felting. Remember all wools don't felt.
