i usually use paint (gimp) to work out the size ... usually i know how big the fur pieces are cut by whatever Company
so i make a file the size of the fur, just use Pixel instead of mm or mm/10 to Keep it reasonable sized.
place in a new layer the pattern pieces, arranging  the pieces till the shape is fit, and then degreese or increase, till the whole fur is covered.
uses just Little skills, gimp is free, works with layers, and got fantastic online documentation

i used to make 1 bear at a time
now as i plan for a show
and got lots of orders
i got a few in diffrent stages from plain cut out, to seam alowance cut, to limbs sewn, some with limbs stuffed and closed
some with face finished some with all parts finished, just need to be assembled and belly stuffed and closed
and then painted ... and one is completely finished, and needs his fotoshooting ..  since 1 week *lol**bangs head*
but i do prefer 1 at a time ... its far more relaxing and feels more ... satisfying ...

thondra

seen him on facebook already, and still dont know, what i like more, the bear or the outfit bear_laugh

thondra

what a shame ... from germany it is a tad to far to go bear_sad

thondra

loooovely !
and now the 1000 dollar question .... how ? bear_laugh

thondra

wow it is fantastic
and the fact of being a first ... you for sure have a huge talent there !

thondra

hey fellow bear artists.

today i got a question i been thinking about for a week already and cant make up my mind.

its ... competitions.

are they worth it ?

most of them are rather expensive to even join in. some i found wiht 30 euro per entry, some with 70 dollars for the first, the rest is cheaper ... and anything in between.

is it really SO good a advertisement if you win or get nominated ?
and if you dont even get nominated, is it not a very bad advertisement ?

and ... when i make a bear today i think good enough to enter, is it really realistic to hide him from puplic for half a year or a year like some competishions tell you to ?

hope you can help me to make up my mind bear_laugh

thondra

uh there are soooo many shows in europe and usa and asia (russland)
but arent there shows in africa too ?

other then that, if you can aford it, and dare to do it ... i would try to go for hugglets bear_laugh

thondra

thondra

thank you pink and becky bear_original

thondra

i love all your work
and every time again you just stun me again
absolute increadable this animal
specially when you sayed HOW small it is !!!

thondra

woah ... amazing ... this rocks ... wonderfull work
and with this small size, so many detail ... i bow for you

thondra

uhm ... well if you stitch in and out at the same position for a cupply of times, the thread doesnt lay above each other ... they lay next each other and also above ... so you get nice rounden edges ... to both sides, and to the top

which would be a perfekt nose, if held small ...
but if you need stitches between the 2 edge stitches, i dont know how to do them, to get them just as high without bulgin to the side too ...

thondra

i am still learning ..
so i say thank you for the tip with the mirror joanne :)

i started off with some old scissors ... get yourself as soon as possible a good pair ... maybe even 2 ... one for cutting the pieces and 1 just for cutting the hair off the material ... and nothing else ...

get yourself some stuffing tool ... it makes live so much easier

splints just for small bears
i make now 30 cm bears, the spints for those are a PAIN to get tight, and the smaller ones dont hold
now i use bolts and nuts ... as danger bear says,... sooo much easier

and after the first bear had a broken seam now ... use good thread ... and better thread bear_laugh

thondra

i live with it :P
i hate thimbles
and handcream doesnt make me too happy either

thondra

he looks diffrent to you bears
and still the same to your bears bear_laugh it is so much a desertmountain bear bear_original
i love him bear_original
