It is a shame to hear that this person is not only taking credit for another's work, but sees no shame in it and brags about it. I personally would feel dissatisfied with my critters if I knew that their design was not my own. She is simply making bears, and is missing out on the joy and satisfaction of creating them.

Is she a friend of yours? If you haven't done so already, I would advise that you warn her before reporting her. Tell her how strongly you feel, and that you feel it is your responsibility to report her if she does not change her ways.

Hey Mommabear! I just thought I'd add that using other people's patterns is a great way to familiarise yourself with the basic components of a ted! It is natural that through doing this, you will find some bear sizes/features/shapes more agreeable than others and will endeavour to create a bear pattern of your own to achieve this. As far as i know it is ok to draw inspiration from others' patterns- but the pattern drawing must be your own :-p
I personally loved the style of bear that one artist used. The bears were very chubby and babyish- just what I was going for! She sold her pattern, and I resisted buying it because I really wanted the bears to be my own. I researched pattern pieces and created a pattern with lots of darts. I eventually obtained the desired result, and can rest in the knowledge that, whilst inspiredby her work, the baby bear that I made is completely my own. I'm sure that mine is also a different size and shape to hers. I hope this helps :-) xx

Hey everyone :-)
As I develop my teddy skills, and see that some of my critters have received more attention than others, I wonder if selling some of my patterns would be a profitable future pursuit. My question is: how do I do this?
I mean technically- what should I include? Which computer program is best to use?
I'd also be interested to hear your opinions on how to know if your work is good enough. Does the pattern have to be complex, or can it be fairly simple?
And how do you work out what to charge?
Do you need to obtain copyright? Where could I get this?

I'd really love to hear what you all think :-)

This is a wonderful idea- I just love the thought of being able to own a bear that another artist has lovinhly made. I find others' work so special, but also inspiring. I make mini bears and am pleased to hear that this size would also be treasured XD

Hey everyone- I've not been on here for a while and am so pleased to be back :-)
I'm hoping to have a stall at a bear fair at some point and would love to hear about your experiences of fairs.
How did you find out about your first fair?
How many bears did you take?
How did you know that you were ready to have a stall?

I'd love to hear your pearls of wisdom :-)
bear hugs,

Hi Amy,  I am glad to see your new little creations, they are all adorable.  My eye is drawn right away to the unicorn in the teacup, I think it is the way you have him photographed.  He looks so cute sitting in that cup.

Joanne

Thank you Joanne, I will bear that in mind (excuse the pun) when taking future pics :-)
It's really great to hear your feedback, I'm new to this so I'm learning lots of great tips from you all- thanks so much!!

The thing I absolutely love about internet chats is that you get to know the person before you see them. That way, you are really getting to the heart of them, and are not making value judgements on how they have their hair, how they are dressed, and what their accent is.

I have gotten to know several people this way and, so far, when I met them in person, they have never disappointed me.   bear_thumb
In my opinion, the people who are honest, considerate and reasonable in their comments on forums or TT or whichever internet medium, turn out to be exactly the same in real life.  I just avoid the people who are abusive, judgmental or fanatic, because I do not believe that they will turn out to be wonderful people in real life.

Moreover, not having been at the front of the queue myself when they gave out the good looks  , I consider it a big advantage that people like me for my ideas, personality, etc... instead of my looks (it sounds corny but it's true).  bear_laugh

Peter & the bears

This is a wonderful post, it actually reminded me that I forgot to mention- I met my husband over the Internet!!

I agree that the mask of the inet can make people bold (and a bit rude), but I'd like to share with you the nice experiences I've had. I sell jewellery and accessories on Etsy and eBay (long before I picked up any mohair) and I've met some lovely women who have been more 'open' than they would be had we met face to face. I recently sold some items to a lady in America who is quite unwell and we began chatting. She is lovely and really sweet and we have both been really open about our similar experiences in our conversations. I don't think I could have said these things in person, and I think that sometimes the distance created by the inet allows us the security we need to say (well, write) things we wouldn't otherwise speak about. Do you think the inet can be therapuetic in this way?
Xx

Teacup Teddies

Wow, he is a true artist. His daughters are adorable and he truly captures something if their spirit, and his love, in every shot. I am going to read the interview later. Thank you for sharing this xx
