This is my prototype. He's about 22" tall & has his own felt fortune cookie. I found a pattern for knitted fortune cookies & would like to find the patience  to make one!
My little "old" gold bear. He's 10" tall.
I'm still having issues with uploading pics to my desktop, so my BlackBerry & netbook are helping out! My challenge to myself was to finally make a bunny.
He's 14" tall, not including his 8" ears, and is adapted from my bear pattern. I tried a sort of trapunto/applique with ultra suede for the nose & foot pads, which was another challenge to myself.
Sorry to hear about your detour to the hospital, Shannon.
Oh my! That monkey is adorable, Julia!!
BGB is a cutie, Wubbie! Can't wait to see the other members of your fast-growing bear family.
This subject has also always been interesting to me as I of course started out using other people's patterns to make bears. At that point when I made bears to sell, I used patterns that gave permission and I gave credit.
After a while, I decided I wanted to come up with my own patterns based on styles, techniques, shapes, etc. that appealed to me. It is difficult because while I did not directly use any existing patterns when working on my own, I know without a doubt that the influence of my experience is there. As others have said, the basics are the basics.
Oh, and Wubbie, I'm not blind but some days I stab myself 800 times and come up with all kinds of colorful words too!
I love her! Someday I'd like to try making a cat & a dog.
Adorable!!
What a sweet little bear! I like the variegated thread for the nose.
Wow! I love his nose & his toes. I really like his big feet. Very cute & a striking color combo.
She's lovely, as is her outfit! She has such a soulful face.
Thank you for the comments on my bunny.
Becky - Yes, I did make the nose heart shaped.
I'm working on my next one. Using ultra suede for the nose this time and trying trapunto on the foot pads too.
Andrea,
That's a fabulous picture/tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing that technique. I just made up a rabbit & was thinking I'd like to add whiskers, but wasn't sure about how to apply them.
I'm so sorry to read of all the injuries. Here's to quick healing!
I finished a rough draft of my rabbit today. Since it's my first attempt I made it up out of some inexpensive acrylic I had on hand. For a "real deal" version, I've got a pretty piece of gray wool I bought years ago & haven't had the right use for - until now! I tried a sort of trapunto for the nose using felt & I'm pretty happy with the way it came out for never having done it before. I used wire in the ears for poseability, but need to get a heavier gauge for better support.
Please forgive me for not posting a better photo, but my desktop computer is acting up & I'm not able to upload pics from my camera so I'm relying on my BlackBerry for the moment.
Hmmm, may have come upon this challenge too late, but I'll give it a whirl I've always wanted to try and dye my own mohair, something really really funky looking, like tie dye or batik. If I can get the mohair in time, I'll be up for the challenge Count me in! ;)
I'm even later!! I just found this board tonight while searching for info on trapunto - a new technique I've never tried, but am wanting to incorporate into a new project I'm working on. Using the first teddy pattern I designed as a base, I designed a bunny and want to make a nose out of a piece of lovely pink ultrasuede.
I still haven't found exactly the info I'm looking for, but I'm thrilled to have found this board!
