Thank you for the advice !
I am about to start my long over due project. I am making the head of my doll out of polymer clay and I bought some taxidermy glass eyes. Should I add eyes to sculpture as I am sculpting ? would it be ok to bake glass eyes with the clay ?
My section Question is about Lock line. I am going to be working with a 20" long pattern ( I am modding the pattern) it is of a Rottweiler by springtimedesign. I wanted to know what size lock line would work for this ?
Thanks in advance
Oh, man, what a hassle. I received the wrong fabric from them once, and they said: "Oh, that's the fabric that we have now. We don't have the old fabric anymore." The "old fabric" was the brown and white speckled mongolian fur, and the "new fabric," while also brown and white, had HUGE alternating stripes all the way across the fabric! I decided not to send it back, once they said that the "old fabric" wasn't available, but I still have no idea what to do with it.
Litwit this is what they replied after I showed them pictures ""Hi I just showed the photo our warehouse manager the photo and he said you got the right fabric. Would you like to retunr it? ""
They either using someone else pictures or have the fabric in warehouse and someone sent me the wrong one. Its clearly not the same fabric. They just sent me long pile shag in ivory .... I guess I will keep it , I am going to waste money sending it back. Now I need to figure out what I can use that for later down the road.
I just asked an Etsy seller if they have it in a yard but got a snappy rude reply .... wow people are acting crazy must be a bad week for me to look for this fabric
I ordered some fabric from Fabric empire ( never again ) and they sent me the wrong fabric. They claim the picture they where advertising is what they sent even though I sent them a picture. All well I am returning it but won't buy from them again since they will send you stuff that is not advertised.
I am looking for this type of Fabric in Ivory, white, red/apricot ( animal colors ) , brown , or black. I looked on Etsy and found one seller with it but they are in AU. I would think I could find this in USA ?
If you know some where online please LMK. I am going to try downtown Los Angeles but really don't want to spend a whole day looking. Last time I went down town for fabric it was just a huge hassle we barely found what we want and every store no one seemed to want to look for fabric for us. If you know Specific store in Los Angeles that would help too.
Thanks !
Very cute I love his expression !
I finally got my 101 bears cd and Nancy mentions Euro faux fur are there any retailers in USA or even online stores that ship to USA with Mongolian type faux fur ? or just long pile fur?
I also have questions about Mohair ( all the mohair ) I have seen online looks short and not long. I saw a few dogs made with mohair and the hair looks really long. Where can I find longer mohair ?

Wonderful sculpting! I can't find your question, however.
Becky
Sorry I just realized I didn't post the question , sometimes my mind is running faster than my fingers can type
My question is see the picture and how the polymer parts have holes ? what kind of stitch should I use ? is a straight stitch fine to sew on the faux fur ?
I went to Michaels and got some thread, needles and faux felt sheets. My mom showed me how to do a straight stitch and how to back stitch for added strength. Its pretty easy but lets see if I can stand to sew the whole doll by hand. Here is another question see the picture I added this will be what I will be going for. I will have head and feet polymer clay and have a base that has holes that the fabric will be sewed too.
I just saw youtube on straight stitch looks pretty easy. I will get some needles and thread and test it out I love this forum you ladies have excellent advice
my moms machine is not old like all metal its plastic also ... and it need repair and new petal ( some where in storage too) its best if I just buy my own. I will see if I can find a simple machine. I will be hand sewing just the feet and head but if I can use machine to sew the body that will be great. Thanks for the replies. Now I will see what machine I find
Are Teddy's and stuffed animal sewed by hand or machine ? I am thinking I will probably need to get my own machine. My mom has a old one but I would like to learn on a newer machine. I was on Amazon and saw the rave reviews on this model
I got my glass eyes already and I can probably sculpt the feet and face soon but I am waiting for the 101 bears CD to arrive. I also have been anaylizing stuffed animals I have come across while shopping. I found a rug bear stuffed animal that seems to have the semi pattern I probably need. ( most likely I am going to make my own ) So its just a wait game atm
So I keep reading more and more about dying faux fur. I am finding out that if you hand paint or airbrush they dilute the paint with alcohol. Some of the fursuit's I have seen have soft looking hair and it looks pretty good. I did find some faux fur in some what the color I want but its not perfect. I have been searching for real fur but I need something that has 2-3" of coat.
I decided to make a separate thread from the dying synthetic fur topic.
I am looking for Mongolian or long pile fur in a color like this ( I hope I can find some so I don't have to dye it)
YAY! a furry site! my people....
fursuiting message boards and blogs are awesome resources for teddy bear making, since they are constantly experimenting with unorthodox materials and methods....
much of what I've been doing with bears in recent years came from knowledge I gained in the furry community and through fursuit building.
I agree I found some interesting info on such blogs and forums check this out more on dying faux fur

I am actually looking for a certain color of Mongolian faux fur ( let me get pic of the color )
I know this thread is old but I been googling how to dye faux fur since this is what I will be using. I found this link really helpful
http://www.furnation.com/big_bad_wolf/coloring.htm I will try it and see how it goes.
Thank you Donna and Becky I was eying the springtime designs. Lisa's designs look great also. I will see if I can sketch my design I hope it looks nice. I plan to make a realistic poodle puppy with polymer clay and fabric this should be fun
Hello!
Any pattern that is meant for a jointed bear would be ok, as with jointed arms and legs, you can sit the bear and position his arms as you wish. If you have never tried making teddies, I would suggest you to buy a book on teddy bear making, or you would be in deep trouble I think! :-)
Thanks Francesca, my mom is going to help me ( she sews and crochet she even made us toys when I was young ) we just need a pattern. What I want to make is not a teddy per say lol The jointed bears are not what I am looking for ( I found millions of patterns on that type of bear)
I did more searching and found two patterns on a supply site. Funny thing is I found vendor on Etsy with the patterns I wanted but the store closed ( due to computer crashing ) right when I was about to order
Hello, I have never made a bear or any type of stuff animal. I joined because I am looking for patterns but not sure what terms to use while searching. I have spent a good hr on etsy looking for patterns to buy but only can find one that looks like what I am looking for.
I am looking for a pattern of a sitting bear(any animal) with fore arms on ground.
I am also looking for laying down dog ?
any suggestions welcome
