O.k., you see i was just confused with the part of what i was supposed to be knotting securely. bear_wacko But I guess I'm one of those that has to be told details to understand. Yes, I'm sewing by hand. Well thanks for all the help. And I'll try to be more patient with my bear. Normally I am very good at things like this but maybe I'm just anxious to see what it turns out like and I got frustrated because I got stuck  . Thanks again!  bear_flower

bear_wacko I'm a little confused. Sorry bear_sad Should I have not ended the thread after I was  done stitching the two body pieced together? I think that's where I'm confused. Because I've sewn the darts and the body pices together, but now I'm lost. Sorry I'm such a pain, and a little(or alot) confused.

o.k. i understand the gather, what should i knot it with?

Hi, Sueann. I am attempting to make my bear and I am stuck. I dont know if I messed up or if I'm  just not understanding directions. bear_wacko Its the part that says...Gather around the neck opening, pulling the edges togher and knot securely...Did i go wrong somewhere when it said to stictch all darts? Darts were the two v shaped cuts on both body pieces right? Can you help if you understand what i mean or what i did wrong?

I am making Goldie(the free pattern SueAnn provided), so if anyone knows how big that bear is that would help.

So if i would of read my instructions right, Goldie is 13 1/2 inches.  bear_ermm

I'm actually not too sure how big or small my bear will be.  Like i said this is my first bear I'm attempting. I am making Goldie(the free pattern SueAnn provided), so if anyone knows how big that bear is that would help. I did visit a couple of web sites, like Luanns, but was kind of clueless as to how much or how small the grain?? Does it even matter what kind of glass beads? I mean, would you use steel shot and glass beads in one bear or just one of them? I thought i started my bear out good but feel a little overwhelmed.  bear_wacko

Hi, everyone. I kind of feel stupid for asking this but...I have no idea what steel shot is or where to get it??!?? I am a few steps into making my first bear(started last night), and i have yet to get any filling for my bear. I have the fiberfill, but no steel shot or glass beads. Any other suggestions on different filling materials or just where to get them will help! I am so excited to see what my bear is going to look like. I got excited last night when I sewed the first ear and saw it take shape! Hopefully I won't mess anything up  I know you can get glass beads online but is there any "specific" beads that I should use or does it matter at all?? Thanks! bear_grin

Hi SueAnn, I had a couple of questions regarding the Goldie pattern. I was looking on BearyCheap and wondering if the lock nut joint set includes the hardboard disks? And what size disks would i need? Antoher question is what kind of tools would i need to put my bear together?? I also wanted to ask if I should go for Mohair my very first time trying to make a bear or practice first on cheaper material. I'm nervous about ruing expersive Mohair bear_cry Any other tips on this pattern, i would really appreciate! Thanks for the free pattern and for the help! Antoinette

Is Constructing Teddy and His Friends, by Jennifer Laing one of her good ones? Where can i find Nancy Tillburgs books?

Hello ladies, I am some what new to TT and to the whole world of making bears. I have yet to start one but I wanted to get a book first. I went to the library yesterday and they did not have much for me to go by, besides I would like to own my book so I can have it whenever I need. I looked on Ebay and there were so many. But is there certain books that have been your favorite or really provided lots of information? I got the free Goldie pattern and the list of things I need but what other tools will I need to start. I started looking at Beary Cheap for the items I'm going to need to order and there are sooo many choices. I also,(from reading other post)understand that Mohair is best to use, but since this is my first I'm not sure if I want to go for the good stuff yet. Maybe experiment first, in fear that I will ruin expensive Mohair bear_shocked Or will I just provide frustration experimenting with the cheap stuff??? I think I have the basics down but I feel like there is so many thing I need that I might forget to order something. Any suggestions or list, or just lead me in the right direction would be very helpful!! bear_grin Thank you ladies so much!

Anxious and waiting to start,
Antoinette bear_original

O.k., so I'm new here and to the bear making world, and I want to give it a shot at trying to make my own bears. I want to know what stores I could go to find all the things I need to start. I tried looking online to find local stores that I've heard of in other topics, and it seems that we dont have those stores in my area. The craft stores around here are Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Will those do, or do I have to order every single thing online? I live in Seabrook Texas. So if any can help me, I would appreciate it! Thanks!! bear_laugh
