Loiuse- My mom is an antique dealer and she triples everything she buys as her selling price. I tend to follow that idea.:) I will figure out how much my materials all cost and determine a range that I would charge. 3 times my cost = the lowest I'd ever sell it (maybe to a retailer or if on sale) 4 times =what I'd sell it to move it quickly and 5 times= my normal starting price. It varies on the quality of bear. If I put lots of love and time and creativity into a bear, I might change pricing, but that gives me a place to start. bear_rolleyes

Kirsten

Hey, where can I buy transparent thread?!? I love the idea for the ears, Winney. bear_original

Kirsten

Laura - You keep saying that you're not suppose to me on the comp. but here you are!! :D

Sue Ann - I love it! I want to make one now! They really are getting popular. Hmmmm...

Kirsten

Is there a way to seal in the color? I know you can wash clothes with a little vinegar and that helps reduce fading, I wonder if that would work with fur?

Kirsten

Danni - I would use black, I think it blends in better. If you're doing an eye patch, I'd also use black, stitching inside the black part of the patch. I don't know if there is a rule of thumb...

Kirsten

You ladies are TOO much!
I've always day dreamed what the ultimate bear would be. You know the dream bear, where all your knowledge and creativity could expertly pour out into a fantastic work of art. Then I open the mohair drawer and my eyes bulge out , and I forget what I was going to make. Or I envision what a great face the bear will have, and then when I'm done, it is cock-eyed! So I thought if I were a bear, what would I be...

I'm pretty sure at this point I would have a removable head, 'cuz I misplace it so many times, it can't be attached! And I'd have a cute little tail.
I loved all your descriptions, it would be great if we could create our "bear-selves"

Kirsten

If you were a bear.... what kind would you be? :)
Wooble joint, Steiff, contempoary, bright color, real fur, mini, felted, plush, etc...

I'd be one of the bears with the really long fur (think curly bad hair day) gigantic feet and I'd like to be spotted! bear_laugh I'd be 15 in., not to big, but big enough to get attention!

Come you wonky goofy ladies, what would you be??!?! bear_happy

Kirsten

Daphne!! I LOVE the avantar! bear_laugh You used jasc PSP?? Okay, how'd you learn? I know I didn't tell ya! bear_rolleyes

Kirsten

I tend to do more boys, but My Mom will see some of my "boyish" bears as female and will redo their bows when I'm not looking! bear_grin

Kirsten

Welcome to this site! Keep it up with the bears! You will either finf "your Style" or realize, you already have! bear_laugh

Kirsten

Laura - I took the nose class too, but never had time during that month, I saved all the info somewhere too! bear_tongue

I can only afford one class, so this one will be it! I can't wait!
Louise - I hope green is your color!;) bear_tongue

Kirsten

Daphne, I use Jasc psp 9, same as 8. Thats how I make my banners and avantar. If you'd like, I could walk you through it. It all about borders, and layers, time patience and getting it all lined up!! bear_original I never read tutorials...

Kirsten

While I have made bears in all color ranges including green and purple, I think mid to light bears do better, they show off the detail. I collect bears from dark brown (not black) to white. My darkest bear is a potbelly bear names Forest.. bear_tongue and I have some in white alpaca, animal print mink, some are contemporary and others realistic. None are dressed though, just bows, keys, or a whimsical hat.... I really like making pandas... I don't know why, I guess I change my mind about fur color mid-bear!! bear_grin

Kirsten

I may new to this board... but I'm NOT new to posting about bears on another unnamed board (ID KK bears) :P
I LOVE to talk and this is a great way to share knowledge!!

Kirsten

Why thank you ladies. bear_laugh I always feel so new and "scared" of each bear as I make it. Maybe you know the feeling.... "Oh gosh, now how do I do this again? How'd that last one get finished??? Oh yeah!"
I currently have a sewn but not stuffed head which has a uneven nose. How'd I do that? I dunno? I was administering State tests and had down time, so I sewed a head... crooked!

I was really looking forward to making a kitty! bear_ermm

Kirsten

Hey hey! Laure, Nice to meet you! :)
The accent would be So. Cal 7th grader... (I teach middle school :o)
Thanks for the compliment on the avantar. I love making banners and graphics and until recently made them for other forums, not bear making stuff. I'm a avantart convert!
Shelli is very observant or just really checking out my avantar!
I love my bear paws, kinda a trademark, ya know... so I include it on my banners/graphics.
Can't wait for more time to catch up on this site!

Kirsten

OH OH OH!! I am taking a class in July from her!! I live close to "the other bear supplier" and signed up! BUT I just found out the class I wanted to take has been changed. It was suppose to be wildcat/kitty and now is advanced bears.. I hope I'm advanced enough!! bear_rolleyes

Kirsten

Personally I think "Chuffed" sounds like the sound wild cats make (mommy comforting cub, or when ready to mate :P) I guess overall, when happy --   so thats the same meaning!! bear_laugh

Kirsten

One of my favorite colors would be multi-colored. I love the ty dyed mohairs here. I'm just patiently waiting for my autumn colors to be sent... (hello Johnna :))

Kirsten

HEY! I finally got my lazy self over here!!
Although I know this is my ONLY place I shop for fur, I've been so busy, I didn't have time to come over and talk! :D

You guys be talkin too much wit out me! bear_cool
