I will be away for the next week or so. My daughter has invited me (no hubby) to visit her. She lives in Spokane, WA and I will be helping her at the Spokane Business Womens Show at the Spokane Convention Center. I don't know much about the show, but the main beneficiary is the Susan G. Korman Race for the Cure. Tina (my daughter) is a Pampered Chef consultant and will be highlighting the breast cancer products at the show. She has asked me to do a Stuff-A-Bear for Breast Cancer Workshop, so we will be advertising for that. We will do the workshop at her house on Sunday afternoon.

So.............I have been making bears to stuff, and now have to figure out how to get into a suitcase:
a 30 inch tall bear, unstuffed bears, stuffing, chocolates, ribbons, thread, certificates, and whatever else I need  for me! I did buy the travel vaccuum bags, and hopefully my 30" bear won't get too mad at me because she has had all the air sucked out of her!

If there is anyone out there near Spokane, and you are looking for something to do April 18 & 19, stop on down, not sure how long I will be at the booth, but I will be at Tina's from April 15 to 20...........................

It was a fun day, and the ladies all enjoyed their new friends. I made one of these bears for a friend (who was helping me this day) when she started her chemo and radiation treatments. She is now done with the treatments, and has always had a good outlook. She actually took Bear with her to some of the treatments.

Sue Ann, no, Andy is still lost. I am heartbroken and wish I knew what to do to locate him again. He has been missing for almost 2 years now................Franzi, the Moon Bear that went overseas is about to head off to England for an auction to raise funds for Animals Asia.

BC2.jpgBC1.jpgOn Saturday, I did a Stuff-A-Bear for Breast Cancer Fundraiser. I had more people than I thought, less than I hoped. A total of 8 Ladies came and stuffed a bear. The pictures are of some of the women, when they were done stuffing and just talking. Each Bear was Pink and another color...............  The Watertown (NY) newspaper was there and printed the following story:

Bear-stuffing fundraiser is a cuddly good time

A A A  POTSDAM — The recipe for making a teddy bear was simple to follow: Pick out a favorite bear, stuff it, choose a colorful ribbon to tie around its neck and then sew the back up.

Hannawa Falls resident Ellen M. MacMaster wanted to raise awareness and funds to help people beat breast cancer. She and some friends gathered Saturday at the Potsdam Chamber of Commerce office to make plush teddy bears.

Participants had a variety of bears to choose from, with each one containing some pink. Each colorful bear was hand-sewn by Mrs. MacMaster, who makes stuffed animals under the 'EmBears label.

"I just love stuffed animals," said Mrs. MacMaster, wearing a pink T-shirt.

She hosts parties for people to stuff their own animals, including penguins, rabbits and teddy bears. The idea for the teddy-bear-stuffing fundraiser came from a client.

"This is a great way to help out some groups that help people dealing with breast cancer," she said.

The participants each received a certificate of appreciation and a poem Mrs. MacMaster wrote in September titled "Bear With a Heart." A small heart also could be sewn on the outside of the bear, or placed inside.

She left a simple message for each person who stuffed a bear: "Remember to give your bear daily hugs and a bit of honey on occasion."

Eighty percent of the proceeds raised from the event will go to Canton-Potsdam Hospital's North Country Mobile Mammography service and the Gouverneur Business Women's Breast Cancer Fund. Each bear cost $30 to stuff and decorate.

The women later visited Mullins Family Restaurant in Gouverneur for another session of bear stuffing.

Mrs. MacMaster hopes to host another event in October to help highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Another story is: Dougal, The Garbage Dump Bear.....it is a story about a bear who was put in the "bin" and ended up living at a beach! A rfeally cute bear story about 'lost' bears and other animals who get rescued.

Thanks Us Bears for suggesting me, I have been in contact with toby42..............

I have made "replacement" bears for a few people. It may not be exactly like the lost bear, but as one little 3-year old put it....."she looks like bear's sister"

I can just hear the conversation!
"Whatcha looking at? I'm a piece of Art"

"Stop staring.....isn't it bad enough I have this stuff on me?"

or.....
"I'm sorry Mom, I didn't know what he was doing, I just laid still and didn't bite the kid like I wanted to!"

My nephew saw his Mom's Plaid Bear and immediately said "That's Granddad's Robe" .  Finally mailed out the 2 bears.....hopefully my brother and nephew like the shirt bears.

KT-dad-sweater.jpgKT-Dad.jpgAC-Dad-sweater.jpgAC-Dad.jpgDad-robe.jpgI finally got my Memory Bears done. (Dad passed away in Sept.) The plaid bear is made from a wool bathrobe, and belongs to me and a 2nd one for my sister. The one with the golf club shirt is for my brother, and the striped one is for my nephew. The bears are made from Dad's Golf Shirt (the front) and a dress shirt (back and snoot) instead of putting a ribbon on the bears, I cut off the collar from the golf shirts and sewed that on around the neck.  The vest is a sweater my Mom made for Dad several years ago, and is lined with the dress shirt that matches bears back. I think I have only 1 more to make for my daughter, but there are 10 grandchildren....... who knows, once they see the bears I may have to make 8 more!

Well, I finally heard back from the Small Business Administration. Still no 'good' answers, but I do understand that the law has been delayed. People "in the know" can't seem to get responses about the law and who/what/where/when it affects any easier than any one else! I was sent this article link......it was interesting to read especially hearing the frustration of others. Guess we will still have to wait and see!

So, some things to read to see if it makes the law any clearer! Good luck!

Seriously, take it easy in all this snow/ice/heat.....whatever weather you have. Spring is on it's way for the Northern Hemisphere....................

pandamac

Ahh, snow.....love the stuff, can't imagine living someplace where there is none. I do get tired of it after a while, but more the cold than the snow......

Lisa, if you want to go sledding, bring the kids up to visit, we have lots of the stuff!

and Jeanne, if you want cold, come up north 2 1/2 hours!!!!!!! 20 degrees feels warm for us, back to negative temps tonight and tomorrow! and I have to work both nights...............brrrrr.

jane, loved the pics.....the snow family is wonderful. I can't make a snow person at all, not one of my strong points.

Ellen

Listening to the news, and they are talking about London being snow bound! and record absenteeism of workers.

Ahhhh, Spring and young love................can't wait for Spring, as for the young love.........

ron--shirt-bear.jpgshirt-bear.jpgWhen my husband was in High School, he had this wonderful orange and brown polyester shirt that he just loved. Of course, as time went on, he outgrew the shirt and handed it to his (older, but smaller) brother, Ron. Ron used the shirt for many years (we graduated HS in '71). The last time Ron visited us, he wore the shirt and left it in the closet. I found it just before Christmas, washed it, cut it out, lined it, added some brown material and made the bear for Ron's Christmas gift. ( his wife says it will be brought back and left here) oh yeah, the eyes are green and purple, David's favorite color combination when in HS!

Just thought I would share the Ugliest Christmas Bear with you. Oh, the hat Ron is wearing?!?!?!... has a battery and switch so the hat can dance......................and you thought I was goofy?????????
