and they stay tight on the joint? they cant unscrew with time?.

That's the idea, at least. The lock nuts have a plastic sleeve that makes them very secure. If you crank them down too tightly during the jointing process, you can still loosen them up using the nut drivers, but they resist loosening just from normal use.

Good luck! (and thank you, Sue Ann. It's good to know about the joint sets for those times when you don't need 100 of something!)

Here's a pic of the lock nuts. (They go with the TBs -- tap bolts -- a little higher up on the page.) http://www.edinburghimports.com/shoppin … 92364=S034

There are only two "hole sizes" (depending on the disks and washers that you use), and I highly recommend getting these from a teddy bear supplier. (I think you'll see what I mean if you go to Lowe's.)

And a wonderful weekend to this handsome fellow as well!

I had one big woodchuck always in my garden.

Yay, Karen! I'm another harborer of "one big woodchuck." He also mostly leaves my vegetables alone, and it drives my neighbors crazy to see him having the run of the place.

Early this spring, when there were sunflower seeds scattered on our picnic table for the birds, "Chuck" came out of hibernation looking very thin, and sat there dining hungrily. I could imagine my neighbors: "And now they've got him eating off of the table!"  bear_grin

Trying to read these messages and picture a head gusset is making my head hurt. I think I might have to get out some cheap fabric and experiment I need visuals.

bear_grin Definitely a good idea!

I've never made anything as small as a 4" bear, but I'm ready to try Joannes's idea on my next bear. It makes sense to me to try sewing the darts AFTER sewing the head together. (So while it's still inside out, I'll pin together a couple of darts at those triangular peaks, and sew across the gusset seam.)

If I remember to take a photo, I'll post it, and please do the same with your experiment, Hannah.  bear_original

I had no luck at the hardware store since there are dozens of sizes and they're sold by the piece, so I got them at Edinburgh Imports (perhaps Intercal has them, too?). If you have a question or need help, just drop them an email and Lisa will get back to you promptly. (I LOVE that!)

He is magnificent, Christine!

I especially like the shape of his arms and paws. (Is that mohair, or some other fur?)

Becky

Ah - another bear that I missed while I was traveling. He's such a charmer, Lisa!

I just love that nose.  bear_wub

Oh, I'm so sorry about your dog's illness, Nancy.

(Perhaps some photos of the whole menagerie need to be posted? I know that many of us would love to see your furry babies.)

Wow, Kara... I always enjoy seeing your bears, but this one is a knock-out!  bear_wub

Sweet, gentle, gorgeous!

Im confused, what is a two piece centre seam gusset?

Cut a gusset down the middle length-wise. Add seam allowances to the cut edges, and you have a two-piece center-seam gusset.

They give a bear a different look, especially with the right fur, and in the case of antique bears, they were a way to save fabric on every twelfth bear since the workers very carefully cut as many pieces as possible from a bolt (or something like that -- so the story goes). I imagine the library here has good information on center-seam bears.

Etsy has a category under "Everything Else" called "Graphic Design." (I've used one Etsy seller to design my hang tags, and another is going to help me with an electronic banner.)

This little bear looks like he's wearing a fur parka! How cute!  bear_grin

This bear is soooo charming! (Just exactly the way she is  bear_original )

When I've done heads with darts, the darts have always been at the tops of the side pieces -- not on the gusset. I'm intrigued by Sue's idea for the little bulge in the center-seam gusset. Are there others out there that use darts in the gusset itself? (Or Joanne -- do your darts cross the seams so that they're part of the side pieces AND the gusset?)

Thanks to all for the info!
