I think I'm one of many people who DO use a cotter pin for the head.

I find I can get that joint tight enough for my satisfaction, and then I use lock-nuts for the arms and legs so that those joints are quite firm.

Well... Until the real design experts weigh in on this, my own experiments with wider gussets have given me more triangular heads.

For more roundness, what if the gusset got fairly wide right at the forehead, but then narrowed down again pretty abruptly toward the back? (A total guess, I'm going to admit, so I hope others will let us know.  bear_original )

Actually, Lenora, your idea sounds like a good start. I would encourage you to go for it!

I imagine the feet would also be important to that "elephant look," but it can certainly be done. (More than one TT-er has posted a sitting ele in recent weeks. Maybe a search or a browse through the Showcase section will give you some ideas.)

Good luck!

These are wonderful photos of your new bears in teddy-bear-paradise, Peter!  bear_flower

Each of them is so unique, and all of them together look like they're having a fabulously good time.  bear_grin

Thanks for sharing these TT-ers' creations with us,
Becky

The little curl of hair on his forehead is priceless!  bear_grin

Becky

She's delightful! I can only imagine how difficult the felting must have been. Well-done!

Becky

Stunning! Gorgeous! And just like a real stray -- I want to take him home.  bear_wub

Karen, if you do reply, I'd recommend a simple "No." Thank her for her compliments. Tell her that the photos are copyrighted, so you can't share them. Period.

(By the way, as a former English teacher, I can affirm that the language in the note is NOT natural. Maybe computer translators generate sentences like those, but English learners whose native language is Russian do not.)

Becky

Wow, Sue -- he's a beauty! (That fat little tummy definitely needs a squeeze. bear_original )

Becky

She is lovely! I'm thinking "Serena" or "Serenity," which I hope her new mom has plenty of after she retires.

Becky

dangerbears

Oh -- what a pretty teddy! (I'll bet that she looks fabulous alongside Cato, am I right? Perhaps someone will adopt them as a pair.)

Becky

What an adorable little fellow!  bear_original  His color is gorgeous.

Becky

I can see why your collector fell in love with this design!

I think my favorite thing about it is the angle of the head. Fergus isn't looking at the ground when he's on all fours, and he has an alert (but calm) expression when he's upright. (Those little ears get a big thumbs up, too.)  bear_thumb

What a sweet face!  :photo:

I really like the color combination, too.

Becky

Yes - thank you very much, Gail. This is going to be so much fun!

She's wonderful, Nancy! Such good sewing, from her hat to her toes.  bear_original

Becky

You make such expressive little faces.  bear_original  I just expect your bears to start talking!

Becky

dangerbears

Yes, Narelle -- he's another winner indeed!  bear_grin

I really like the refinement of your pieces. Some needle felting is kind of loose and fuzzy, and that has it's place, too. But your animals look so well-finished, and soooo cute  bear_wub

Becky

She's a sweet little thing, and she stands, too!

I also like the leaf -- a nice touch.  bear_original

Though I doubt there is much teddy-bear action in Brazil ??

That's a very good question. I don't think I've noticed any TT members from Brazil, or heard about shows (in Latin America in general). If anyone out there can fill us in... bear people want to know!  bear_original

It's nice to be back and to hear from all of you,

Aww...  bear_wub  Tedd is really sweet, and his facial expression is so lively. Your collector is going to adore him, I think.

Becky

Lisa, you've done it again!

I just adore the wildlife you re-create. Everything about that face is miraculous, but I keep staring at the whiskers. They're perfect!  bear_original

Hi Sylvia,

I so admire the wonderful traditional bears you've been posting. Their forms (read: cute, plump little shapes), their fur, and their simplicity have been so appealing.  bear_wub

Becky

I like him indeed, and I'm glad you captured his warm milk-chocolate color on camera. Lovely!  bear_wub

Ling is sooooo sweet!   bear_wub  He looks like very pleasant company.  bear_original
