It happened again! You posted at the same time I did, lol! Well, I know you're on here, Kim Bee!
Lol, I guess he just knows his boundaries. Mom wouldn't be too happy if he groomed the face off of her fave tiger.... lol
Well, i got Joseph (that's his name) finishe; he's listed in the bear's for sale!
Thanks everyone again, for your help!
Kim Bee!!! You didn't email me! lol
Dilu,
You must have left that comment right at the same time I was replying to Kim Bee, lol I didn't see it before; you are Quick Draw McGraw! lol Thank you for the compliment. :)
Renae,
Ahhh, but the tiger doesn't have SPOTS like moosie does! He probably thinks, 'Eh, not my type...' lol
Heather,
thank you, too! I'd like the eye felting to show, too but don't want it to look like a glob of wool around his eye. Do you think it kinda looks like that now? I am unsure. I want it to look somewhat realistic, though I'm not going for super-realistic. I hope to have him done tonight!
Kimberly W.
P.S. It was from Disney's Cinderella, Kim Bee when they found the fat little mouse in the beginning. Can you tell I have two little kids? lol
Hey Kim Bee!
I was thinking Octavius, but for short I'd call him Gus.
Know what movie that was from? lol
Kimberly W.
P.S. I'm just kidding about Octavius; it just kinda stuck in my head.
Krista,
LOL!!! You crack me up! I've had this problem before, too. To me, sometimes the face is lovely from the front, then you turn it sideways and it looks like it ran into a bus.
I am no help as to whether or not collectors are picky about profiles; I guess it would probably one of those 'to each their own' kind of things... but I know that if I'm unhappy with my bear's face looking too smashed, I will usually thread sculpt it more to bring the nose out and eyes and forehead back a bit. I bring out the nose by sculpting the eye socket area from under the chin. that pulls the eyes down and in a bit and causes the nose to poke out more.
Dunno if I helped, but that's what I do!
Kimberly W.
Hi Brigitte,
I roughly needlefelted it first, just so I had the basic shape I wanted, then felted it onto the face and did the detail work while it was on the face. Thank you, by the way. I know I need some work on it still though...
Renae,
lol, moosie would groom it's needlefelting clean off it's face! He would love it as though it was his own... lol
I think this one's a boy. He's just saying, 'Hey, I'm a boy!' as I work on him. Now for a name.....
Kimberly W.
OK everyone, I couldn't help myself. Little leopard has no legs yet, but I quick stuffed it's body with the arms on so I could show you guys my first needlefelt onto faux fur.
Good thing I took pics; I thought something was a tad off, and now I can see in the pics that I need to trim up the fur on the right side of my leopard's nose! lol and poke a bit more around the eyes....
OK, so be HONEST, what do you all think? No froo froo 'oh I love it!', please give me really honest opinions - what do I need to fix or improve on?
Personally I think it's nose is just VERY slightly off - I need to shape it a little more...
the parts that are felted are around the eyes, the black lower lip, and the nose. I think i'm also going to do its paw pads.
Kimberly W.
OK, I have to say this: Needlefelting around eyes is HARD! It keeps wanting to go behind the eye. I want a lid, not a googly-eye!!!! lol
Anyway, I figured it out, but it was a pain. LOVE the needlefelted details on the bear's face. The sky's truly the limit when you needlefelt details on their faces!
I am really happy with this little one's nose. I'd post a pic, but it's not done yet. i don't have any limbs on my bear (leopard)! lol
Kimberly W.
Well, I haven't gotten my lion done yet... I've gotten sidetracked on a 'bear' (actually it's a leopard) that I'm trying to get finished to list on ebay. S/he (I'm not sue if it's a boy or girl yet) has needlefelted facial features! You all so totally rock! You have all gotten me off to a wonderful felting addiction! I'll post pics of the leopard here and also in bears for sale once I've gotten it done.
Hee hee hee, she is cute, Jeannie! But not as cute as my pink and white bear!! OK, OK... I'm a little biased.... ha!
Kimberly W.
The movie is called 'Monkey Shines' with that creepy monkey in it....
Kimberly W.
I have seen things like this before. This is DEFINITELY NOT something I'd want hanging around my house, but there are a few people out there that just like to collect weird, freaky things. Anyone ever seen that movie, I think it was 'Summer School' with Mark Harmon in it? Anyway, there were wo kids in it who were REALLY into all that special effect chainsaw massacre stuff, and they seemed to fancy the creepy stuff.
I have also seen REALLY scary, evil or dead looking baby dolls on eBay. Some of them were so disturbing that I had to get off that auction and just not look at it. It's just not cool getting on ebay and looking at that kind of stuff when you're home at night, pretty much alone (the kids are in bed) and you've got a wild imagination. lol
But yes, the bear's SUPPOSED to look like that.....
Kimberly W.
Judi,
WONDERFUL tip... I thought about clipping away any determined fuzzies, but wondered if that was a felting faux pas, lol. Oh, and I got my husband hooked too. He's poking away his first little monkey. :)
Renae,
If Frodo doesn't watch out, he'll end up bald with me trying to snatch all of his luxuriously downy black fuzzies. But... BUT.... I have TWO dogs with downy black undercoats, so I can switch harvests... ha ha ha Rocky's blowing his coat now after I gave him a bath, so I'm about to harvest his. I KNOW I'll get a bunch off of him; it seems like his undercoat's 3 times as thick as it looks like it is ON him... lol
Dilu,
Ha ha, I've been lucky thus far! Poked fingers a couple of times, but not hard enough yet to draw blood. Thanks for the compliment, too!
I'll have to show you guys this lion I'm working on right now. Maybe I'll have him done tonight!!
Kimberly W.
Yes, it does, Judi... and everyone's here... and it works! Agh! Caught myself again! I'm SUPPOSED to be bagging eyes and noses (bear eyes and noses - plastic safety, that is...lol), and made the mistake of walking past this thing! lol
Kimberly W.
You all are so great! Thank you!!! I think I definitely need a little practice, especially with the symmetry and getting a nice smooth finish. Poor little Edward's got flyaways out the wazoo!!! lol
As for needlefelting onto mohair; that's why I wanted to give felting a try mostly. I'd like to have a go at needlefelting some details on my bear's faces. But MAKING a needlefelted bear was seriously fun, too! So it looks like I'm hooked... or poked.... or stuck... or.... lol!
And YES! It IS easy! I love how if you want a detail, well just keep poking that spot! It's amazing! I am so corny. And yeah... you CAN'T look away, can you?! ha ha I started to do that, look at the TV, then zipped my eyes back to my hands thinking, "Oh crap, I'll poke myself!"
Thanks, you guys for having this forum, being so supportive, helpful, silly and just being fun to talk to! If it weren't for TT and all of you, I most likely would have never even been introduced so personally with needlefelting. I love you guys!!!!!!
Kimberly W.
lol, you guys crack me up! Thank you so much fot the intro; I think I got the hang of it. Well, I did it. I did my very first needlefelted bear and just winged it. I used all of my needles, and I didn't poke myself once! OK, well I poked myself but I didn't draw blood!!! lol Well, let me know what you guys think of him. I named him edward. he's not jointed or armatured or anything, and he's 8 different pieces that were then felted together. What do you all think for a first feltie? I know, I know.. I need practice... Be gentle, everyone! lol
Kimberly W.
Oh yeah, he took me about 4 hours to make.
Hi all, I just bought my first set of felting needles! And some roving, too. Well, I think it's roving, it looks more like loosely spun yarn to me... lol But the lady said..... Ha!
Anyway, I browsed the Needlefelting section, and I could just be overseeing, but I didn't see a topic of "Needlefelting for Dummies" lol I have NEVER needlefelted before, so I need baby steps in baby talk.... lol I really don't even know the first step. I think I remember something about forming a ball... something.... I dunno! ha ha So can we get a topic of "Needlefelting for dummies" going for all of us who have never done it before and would like to learn, please? I'd love to hear the different techniques everyone has, and just basically what to do!
Thanks everyone!
Kimberly W.
Hi All,
I really hate to plug in here, especially since this is jenny's bunny's thread (I hope you don't mind, Jenny!)
But I sell about 7 or 8 different styles of faux furs in my eBay store
http://stores.ebay.com/Bear-Bottoms-Ori … 3aSTQQtZkm
They are the high end, super dense furs and are all lined on the back with ultrasuede or faux leather.
i just noticed that a lot of people were at a loss as to where to find it... it's here! I hope you don't mind me plugging!
And Jenny, BEAUTIFUL bunny... but I think all of your bunnies are to die for! (think I said that before! lol)
Kimberly W.
I can only say one thing.... AWWWWW!!!!!!!! I loooove him! A platypus needs to come and live with me!!!!
Kimberly W.
Oh, I think he's soooo darling! No kidding, he's one cute bunny. I haven't tried to make a bunny yet; I'm afraid it'll end up looking like Frankenstein! lol
Kimberly W.
OK, all you ladies.... I have to get in on this challenge! After looking and giggling at all these bears, I have got to give it a try... I hope I make the deadline! I don't like anime, but the ones on here are soooo cute it just might have changed my mind!
Kimberly W.
Hi Sarahjane,
I am in the same boat as you as far as having time to spend on bears. Myself, I have 2 kids, 2 jobs outside the home, plus my online business at home and of course the bears! I manage about 1 bear a week as well! lol
What I did with eBay is started all of my bears out low, about $7. I felt this kept out those who 'would buy a bear for a buck' and it encouraged people to bid more. I also never use featured listing, no matter how much my bears go for. That's just me though... There are a couple, less expensive features if you don't want you bears to get lost in the shuffle. Try the BOLD listing option or the Border option. Those are only a couple of dollars (US). Also, just like several other people gave the good advice of, keep your listings running. don't let time go between listings if possible. I maybe wrong, but I don't think it's a good idea to flood eBay with your listings either... I kind of think people would think that you just crank out your bears... again, I could be wrong!
Also, make sure you let us know when you list, in Bears & Friends! I don't have much time to get on here with everything, but I don't think I've ever seen one of your bears in Bear & Friends.
I hope this helped... if not, just tell me to go back to work... lol!
