Sounds like bad advice for the Christmas Turkey........... crackup

I think I might try a little of both and do the seams before sewing ( I hate trying to get those pesky little hairs out of the seam!!!!  ) then the rest after stuffing as I never know how much I'm going to pluck.

Sarah Jane, adding your ebay ID takes another line, which throws off the alignment, but it works if I move you to the bottom of a column.

Wow thank you so much Eileen and Lisa, I really am grateful for this I would still be ages off this sort of thing otherwise.    bear_original

This is a very funny read....maybe you should frame that nose Kim?   I usually end up throwing those sorts of heads across the room then rescuing them a few days later. My solution has always been to keep adding thing until it looks better but I think I'll try the chop method next time it sounds like much more fun

Hi Clare,

I like something nice and easy on the eye, preferably with at least one photo of the bearmakers bears on it so that I can see their style. Something that invites me to look further, kind of like the title page on a book  bear_grin

Dear Shelli,

I agree with everything everyone else is saying and couldn't say it any better myself. I would kill (well almost) to be able to make bears that look like yours and you along with some of the others on here are one of my greatest inspirations!!! Your bears give newcomers like me something to strive for.

That said you must look after yourself, your health is more important than anything else in your life right now, the bearmaking can wait. You are a well established bear artist and your customers won't forget you, I think that what Sabine said earlier was correct

Shelli, your health must come first. If your bears are a little scarcer they will become even more desirable and prices for the few that turn up may go way up. Have faith in yourself, you are a great girl and your bears are top of the line!

Take care of yourself and when you are ready there will be customers lined up waiting for you

They look like the christmas beetles (at least thats what I call them) we get here in December. They sometimes come in all different colours though.

Just wondering ...for those of you that pluck the muzzle of your bears, do you pluck before or after stuffing, and before or after sewing? I am just curious really as I have done it all ways and don't find any of them particularly easy.

I was wondering if one way was better than another.

We don't have air conditioning and it gets pretty hot and humid here in the summer...... We go with the fans...showers etc... and if it gets too bad we pack up the kids and go to a shopping centre (they have air conditioning)
unfortunately on those really hot days half of Brisbane has the same idea.  bear_grin

sarahjane

Wow Eileen you have done a great job...and Lisa Thanks so much

I don't want to be a pain but I noticed that Duffy antiques had their ebay id in and thought that was a great idea...as I don't have a website I wondered if I could do that too.  I edited my original post to include it.  but if it is too much of a hassle that's fine too it can stay as is.

I'll put it here too so you don't have to search..

Hi Penny

First I hope your mother in law is ok and nothing too serious is wrong with her.

It's a tough one about your neighbour and I can completely understand why you don't want to alienate him, especially since you usually get along so well.

Maybe you could invite him over for a cup of coffee (with your husband there) and ask him nicely if he has a problem with the songbirds in your eaves (maybe they bother his wife if she has been unwell) and explain that you're worried about the safety of the situation etc. Then see if you can nut out a solution together.

Who knows ...perhaps he just had a particularly stressful day, no sleep (its amazing what no sleep can do) and just cracked a little under the pressure, just knowing that you saw what he was doing and aren't happy with it may be enough.  I'm sure he doesn't want to alienate you either.

A few years ago our neighbour had a cockatoo outside on his patio that used to squawk at 5 in the morning and it was right outside our bedroom....anyway after months of this we finally got up the courage to speak with the neighbour and he moved the bird..no more noise ...no more problem!!!  I only wish we'd said something earlier!  bear_grin

I hope you can get the situation with your neighbour resolved with no unpleasantness.  bear_original
