fortunately, Peter, I live in an area that has mostly farm machinery, no where near a city! Actually, there is only 1 city in my county (the largest county in New York State) the other places are mostly Hamlets with a couple of villages......Basically, all very rural. It is not uncommon for the deer or other critters to get hit by cars, most people are aware of what is going on around them and avoid the deer. Last February, my husband hit a deer with my car. A site that I try not to remember. The deer jumped out onto the road hitting the right front of my van, scrunched the door and the front wheel panel and killed the headlight. The deer rolled over about 3 times, got up and bounded away across the road while we sat and waited for the police to file a report......David saw the deer ahead of time and was saying:"stay there, stay there." of course, the deer didn't hear him and jumped out anyway..............
Hopefully the next time I am out with my camera, I will see the turkeys and post their pictures................

At it's best! I took these pictures yesterday on my motorcycle ride yesterday. It was about 55F and might be the last day I could get out, so I took the time out of my bear-making to ride. The last deer ran out in front of me, but far enough ahead that I had time to stop, as did she. She waited very patiently while I got the camera out and took the pic!
All these pictures were taken within 10 miles of my house........................

Thanks for the possibilities, US Bears. I will have to google them, there is no listing in my phone book for Magic or Novelty.....I live about 45 minutes from the Canadian Border, (2 hours south of Ottawa) we got a Wal-Mart 1 year ago, up til then we had to drive 1 hour to buy Underwear! I am not complaining, I love it up here, but shopping is horrible! Scenery is gorgeous and I'd rather have the scenery than the shopping! I will check out the malls when we head to visit my Mom or Mom-In-Law.................
Thanks everyone for your ideas....keep 'em coming................
Ellen
Well, I guess the Internet will be my friend....no magic shops around here, unltess I drove 1 1/2 hours and there's no time to do that!
Thanks for the suggestions!

something to put into a skunk that will squirt.
Here's the story: Someone I know loves skunks. I make him a skunk last year. When I saw him this year, he told me how much he loves the skunk, but wished that he had one that squirts! Since I try very hard to make critters that people want, I told him no problem! The problem is, there is a problem.....I am not sure what I can use to put inside the skunk (he will have velcro to get this thing in and out to refill) that will not leak, but will squirt when squeezed.
I ws given a suggestion of a lemon or lime container, the one that looks like a lemon or lime, but not sure how that can be re-filled.
Oh, what did I get myself in for?!?!?!?!?!?!
thanks for any thoughts and suggestions.................
The porcupine was fairly big. I was about 5 feet away from him, and I made sure Ti stayed in the car..........didn't want him to get porcupined again!  He did that a few years ago, looked so funny with porky needles in his snout!

For those wanting to see the leaves in their full color, here are some that I took as I drove through the Adirondack Park last week to visit Mom. Some were taken in the rain, others it was sunny. Enjoy!
The final picture is from last year, a porcupine crossing the road into camp.................
Has anyone gotten either a Trademark or a Copyright for their work? How about your website? I have thought about doing so, but haven't yet. Right now I am in a position where I find I might need one. Any thoughts on which would be better? I am looking at my business name and website name, not so much for patterns or critters.
Thanks for any input........................

Rain has decended on us here, so the colors aren't as vibrant.....maybe I will take my camera the next time I go out and take some pics.....

It must be Fall. I went for a motorcycle ride, all alone everyone else backed out including hubby, on Saturday. Kind of cool, temp was around 58, and cloudy, but the leaves were beautiful. The leaves seem to be changing early this year, the Adirondacks are at about 50% already, that usually doesn't happen until mid-October! No, I did not have my camera with me, sorry, no pics......
The other indication that fall is here is I was woken up twice last night by Geese! The Canada Geese are gathering together to head south. The noise they make when they get together is amazingly loud, especially at 3 AM!
Hope you enjoy your change of seasons wherever you are!

I just returned from a week at our camp on the lake. My sister joined us during the week, while hubby went in to work. I actually bought a fishing license and went fishing with sis.....she loves, loves, loves fishing! We caught enough for 3 dinners! a nice relaxing week and weekend, and now I need to check the calendar for work and more motorcycle trips.....and find time to finish a wedding bear order!

so sad to hear all these dead animal stories. I uncovered my blueberries the next day after the Robin incident. Then a few days later I had a really nice smile. I was mowing the lawn and I saw the weeds moving in my raised flower bed (or should I say weed bed) and wondered what was living in there. When I got to end of the bed, a tiny bunny hopped out and hopped across the road and the neighbors yard. Then a 2nd bunny hopped out and across my yard, a 3rd one followed and then a 4th! They were all soooooo tiny. Made me very happy that day!
gave me a good laugh.....................love it!
Thanks
My daughter called her bear "Tubby" Bear....here is the picture of him. He had no eye when she received it. My brother bought it for her in 1979 in TX and when he got it home, saw there was no eye, but decided that by the time he exchanged it, she would never get it, so he sent it on with one eye. She says that Tubby has had no tag for years......................don't know who made it, but maybe someone can help, especially if it is like the bear you lost.....................
Have you checked on eBay? I think my daughter has the same bear. I will see if she can tell me the true brand name of it, but the tag is probably so worn.............................

This morning I went out to pick my blueberries to put on my Cheerios for brakfast. Apparantly, a Robin got stuck in the 'bird netting' and died. I had to cut him out of the netting beofre I could pick the rest of the berries. They didn't taste quite as good this morning as they have in the past.

Hey Mom....isn't that New York and the Adirondacks over there? Must be last leg of the trip.
Hi all. David & I returned on Saturday from 14 glorious days riding bikes 4033 miles. We left home on Sunday morning, June 20, drove through Vermont, Maine, New Brunswick. We then explored Nova Scotia, trying to stay along the shores, rode the south shore from Dartmouth east, then the south shore of Bras d'or lake. Spent 2 nights in a nice B&B on the north shore of the lake, about 15 minutes from the Newfoundland ferry. Our drive through Vernont the first day had us going through rain for about 4 hours, I think it was the same storm, just hitting different sections as the road twisted! Driving the south shore of NS was in some drizzly fog, but it cleared up. Unfortunately, the Cabot Trail, first half was in fog so thick you could only see about 30 feet in front. The 2nd half through the Highlands was gorgeous and clear.
Then we got on the ferry for Newfoundland. We landed at Port aux Basques. (west side of the province) The ferry was 2 1/2 hours late, so our plans went all to h---! We found a beautiful B&B in St. Theresa, the guy was very nice and we had the place to ourselves....nice and relaxing. We drove through Port au Port penisula, which was beautiful, spent the night in a motel in Badger. Continuiing the next day to Twillingate and the Northern shore on into Eastport to another pretty spot B&B. We have now been on the road for 8 days. I called the ferry to check on departure time from Argentia on the east side, only to find out it was cancelled and we needed to go back to Port aux Basques by 4:30 on Tuesday! So, Monday morning we got on the bikes and headed back west spending the night in Gros Moraine Park at a B&B in Rocky Harbor. Then on Tuesday, finish the last 220 miles to the ferry, arriving at the B&B around 11 PM. Wednesday morning we left late to start our trek home. Again, Cape Breton area was in a fog, so we went straight through spending the night in Amherst, then onto Maine, then back roads into Vermont taking the Charlotte/Essex ferry and through the Adirondacks, arriving home around noon on Saturday.
Total trip was 14 days, about 2 days in rains, another day in fog. Newfoundland was cold, but not much traffice, and a well-kept secret. We would love to get back to Newfoundland, we missed seeing the whole Avalon Penisula.................a reason to plan another trip over. Novas Scotia has some really pretty spots......maybe someday I will do this trip again, with a longer time out so I can see more of the area.................

The ferry to Newfoundland
Checking out Twillingate area.....such a long way up, and windy!!!!
Oh! I forgot to say 2 things......first, I am lined with a waterproof material so I can ride the bike in all kinds of weather. Which is a very good thing since on Sunday, we leave for 14 days of riding and touring Nova Scotia and Newfoundland. Mom is pretty excited about going, and so am I . I just hope it doesn't rain too much....even though I am waterproof, I don't like the rain.
