A year ago I shipped a cat to a little fjord in Norway. The town was so small they didn't use street addresses. The mailman knew all the names of the families. I sent it USPS Priority mail International, Insured. No problems at all and the cat arrived very quickly.

I just made one of these for Christmas so I think I should have dibs on a real one  bear_whistle

SueAnn,
I'll have enough when one ends up at my house bear_tongue

KJ Lyons

I guess it's what you're used to? The few times I've used mohair the short cut ends made my skin itch bear_tongue With synthetic I leave the fur flat on the table as I cut, then I take each piece and skim off the loose fur into a deep trash container with a top. I never have fur flying around or on the floor. But I've been using faux fur for over 15 years so I guess cutting pieces is second nature to me by now.

I have two boys and the Alpha guy is always doing stuff like this  bear_happy
P.S. I'm still looking for a Ginger kitten!1354932731_545073_333244543416261_1819436045_n.jpg

Whoa, bunny, the kittens would use him for their practice attacks. They wouldn't really hurt him but I think you'd have to be a constant referee  bear_grin

KJ Lyons

I think Gail wants to see us fight over kittens bear_tongue  Yes, I do want that one, too! Look at that cute belly bear_wub

KJ Lyons

SueAnn,
I covet them all until I get one of my own  bear_laugh

Still - I'd rather be safe than sorry, as it's said. Let all of the Chicken Littles run their heads off, it's better to be prepared with water, food & boarded up. or better still boarded up & Gone! I cannot see staying in your home in the direct path of any coming storm like that.   (A whole different topic!)
I think one tends to stay near the place you were born, if job or other situations don't move you on. I feel pretty lucky/fortunate to have been born near one of the least likely tragic weather areas in the world. (except for the quirky New Madrid fault-line!)

Bobbie, that's funny bear_happy Not one of my four siblings live near where we were born and even my parents moved across country and lived there most of their lives. I'm living in Seattle and my early years were across the country in CT.

My sister-in-law told me that her father on Long Island NY is staying in a shelter, he is in his 80's and has not had electricity for 7 days (she's in Florida and even if she could get to LI, traveling out to him would be difficult because of the no gas situation). He told her that they had chicken soup for breakfast, today, because they are running out of food at the shelter. bear_sad

Wow! Donna. That's depressing. I guess I'll be making a lot of kittens and hoping my supply holds out until I can find another supplier, or a new supplier shows up  bear_ermm

Jenny, there seems to be no supply of Tissavel or Tyber white/off white fur for any price, anywhere, that is longer than about 1/2". I've been looking for about two years for some of this fur in a 1-1.5" length. For some reason Tissavel (who now owns Tyber fur) is not willing to let a new supply go out to smaller sellers. Speculation is that they only want to sell large amounts(100+yds.) to the fashion and decor companies.

Dibs on the ginger cat! I love them all, but I have been searching for a ginger kitten for the past 10 years. It is a good thing but in Seattle we do not have a lot of kittens come up for adoption and never a ginger kitten.

I didn't escape the storm all the way across the country in Seattle. I just got my email and website back up, again. My provider is on Long Island and they were knocked out for over a day. Sounds as though a majority of my family members in NY and CT have large trees down. My in-laws, in their 80's, had a tree fall on their house on Long Island, NY. They're OK but their electricity is out. They're driving over to my sister-in-law's who also has a tree down and no electricity. But they figure they'll fare better if they're all together. But no one was hurt! It's going to take a loooong time to clean up the mess! Can you imagine the smell in the NYC subways with all the dampness and drowned rats!
Got this during the storm from my cousin in CT. The drop in pressure during the storm blew a lot of people’s doors open. I thought that only happened in tornadoes?
‘Now I'm getting scared __ my back door blew open and all the bedroom doors popped open. I'm in my bedroom with my two little girls.’

THis is something I do at least 4 or 5 times a year. I try to wait for a time when I'm feeling strong and curious. Designing a new pattern is HARD work and you can't let the frustrations overwhelm you. I tend to work in a realistic style. That's good in that I can create a clay head sculpture more easily using photos. Hard in that there is a lot of subtle detail in the look of a realistic design. I can more easily draft a pattern using a clay model. (Sort of like using a mannequin while designing clothing) I always work in the same material as I will be using. But I do tape together and take apart the pattern pieces as I work to get some kind of idea what the shape will be. If I get stuck I stop! For some reason if I sleep on a problem, frequently, I have the answer when I wake up. It can take a long time. My original cat design took me almost a year of design and experiments with detail before I thought it was good enough for showing. Now I have more experience with patterning and a new design takes me about a month.
