Mine has to be a very old Steiff. I picked up one in Sue Pearson's shop( well she allowed me to pick him up very carefully) and could easily have run away with him as nowhere in my budget could I have ever afforded to buy him.
Of course with all the emails I keep getting telling me how lucky I am to have won so many millions of £ and $ I am sure that I could afford a whole army of teddy bears.

Karen you pose a very good question. How in this chaotic world does a teddy bear/critter fit in ???when money is being used to rescue people from natural disasters never mind the ones that man himself creates. And then this is with the money that is available.
With it being a hard cold world, share holders, companies, look at the bottom line and if it does not show the results they want changes have to be made.
Living in South Africa, bear makers have to look at other ways to get their work promoted as we do not have any major shows and the collector market is small. Selling on Ebay is another problem as Paypal will take funds out of your account BUT will not pay funds into your account if you have a South African bank account, and most buyers are encouraged to pay with Paypal on Ebay. After many months of headaches I have now got my one account set up to receive paypal payments, so selling on the Evil bay becomes another option for me.
Again many influences that are affecting shows is that the organizers are now retiring and making way for younger blood to take over. Daphne is a good example of someone who is getting this off the ground by introducing new events and for her to succeed she needs all the support and help from the bear community.
In Korea and Taiwan, again it is younger blood that is getting involved in the bear business and here I see so many young collectors and bear makers which is what the market needs.
I see this as interesting times as many new ideas will start developing and who knows maybe we have a whole new teddy bear collector base sitting on Mars waiting for the bears to arrive.

I am rather disappointed as Sandy decided to wait till next week Tuesday(unless anything happens before). I have come back home so will have to see the little one when I get back from my travels.

I flew to Cape Town as little one(first grand daughter) was supposed to arrive on the 18th October, however she says she is rather comfortable where she is and will make her apprearance when she thinks it is the right time.
However come Friday, she will have no option but to arrive as the Dr says the is the last day she stays put. I went with for the last scan and all I can see is a mop of hair. Both parents have lots of red hair so it is going to be interesting to see what this one has.
Sandy is now waddling around the house, with us hovering around saying, felt anything yet. It is also their first baby so great excitement in the air.
I will keep all posted.

Dear Sarah,
Can understand how mad you must be feeling, I do hope that it ends wells and that your lovely bear goes to someone who wants him and who is not prepared to mess you around.
I am also new to the Evil Bay so do not have much to advise you on that.

I often think the odd "imperfection" is what adds character. I have purchased two bears in the past from award winning Toby winners and one is definitely out, however I was still attracted to the bear's appeal.
Ming, I am also looking forward to being in Taiwan once again, and excited about seeing the teddy bear book.
Lynette
ouch ouch

Please let me know more when the dates and all are finally set.
thanks

Paula when i get back home I will have a look.
Lynette
Thanks for sharing this. Always good to get a reminder that one has to be careful with both animals and small children.
Lynette
I will tiptoe then

I left home with the roses in full bloom. At the moment I am in Cape Town. The little was was due on Saturday but has decided that she is perfectly happy where she is. The Dr has booked Friday as the "D" day if nothing happens before then.
On the scan all I could see was the back of her head and she has a mass of hair.
Sandy is now "waddling" around the house.
Thanks for all the comments on the bears. I think I have found a new interest in bear making , creating these smaller bears. One keeps learning all the time.

Bren I wondered when someone would get smart here and be clever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maria what a lovely dog.

Thanks all for the good comments. Working with this fabric was not easy, especially working on the faces. I have had great fun doing them as I had more liberty in "messing " them up. I have plenty of antique lace so was able to again play with dressing them up.

After doing a course with EZBear University, I decided to do some old bears to take with to Korea and Taiwan. They are about 6" and smaller than what I normally make. I did this so that the ebrs would take up less space in my suitcases.
These pictures I am going to play around with and will use them in my display. The actual bears still need to be photographed properly something on my to do list.
I must have all prepared by the end of the week, as then I am off to Cape Town to wait for my first grand daughter to make her appearance. She should be here by the 22nd as if not she will get a little help.
The roses in the pictures are from my garden, and being able to pick a rose in the morning makes my day.
These bears are made from some antique German mohair that I purchased while in the UK. When I first brushed them out I thought all the fur was falling out, but it was fluff and dust only. Some have antique glass eyes that must go back to round the 1920's.

Just reading through these and
tying Paula up with her bear. This is called the "package deal" you not only get the bear you get the artist as well.  ( no funny comments here)
Laura spelling, had to write out comments yesterday by hand and was rather lost without having a spell check in my head.
Lynette
I have been changing my bears, must mean that I have a split personality- must explain a few things.
Paula, I could easily tie you up with your bear. You both have the same friendly smile and both sparkle.
Maybe we should have some more pictures up and let the rest judge.
