VERY impressive work!!! And Renae, you certainly don't need to slink away - your dragon is great!
It's been a long while since I entered awards, but I've dug back through the files and found these from quite some time ago!
First is 'Bon Bon'. She was entered into the British Bear Artist Awards in 1997 and came second in her category. At the time I was bowled over because the winner was none other than fabulous Sandra Wickenden, so I was walking on hallowed ground! 'Bon Bon' was about 30" in height and modelled on my beary take of a young teenage girl! She now lives in Japan.
After Bon Bon came 'Himself' shown at the opening of this thread. I nearly fell off my seat in shock when he beat Janet Clark's wonderful bear. I couldn't get my head round that for ages.
Next came 'Pazazz'. He was 28" and came second in the British Bear Artist Awards in 1999. As you can see, I was going through a clown phase that year! From memory, I think he's in Japan now too. They seem to appreciate unusual bears out there!
In 2000, I received a nomination in the BBAA's with my entry 'My Indulgence'. He was a massive hunk of a bear at 26" in height, with a tummy to match ... he was made from synthetic faux fur and had an alpaca head.
Finally, I entered 'The Lynx Effect' into the BBAA's in 2003 and received a nomination. I really enjoyed making him, once again, using faux fur in a lovely lynx print. He was 20" high and had an extra neck joint and massive toed feet, which unfortunately you can't see in this pic.
And that's about it folks! I did also enter a long hairy bear into the EVA's way back when. He was called 'Merlin' and he received a nomination, but sadly no pics exist.
What awesome critters here.
Judi, actually I have thought of making a smaller version of Skippy. Skippy is a pretty big bear so I may scale the pattern down a bit.
Here's Chauncey, my Golden Teddy winner for 2005, and the first piece of mine to ever achieve an honor of any kind.
This year I was honored to receive a TOBY Industry's Choice award for my porcine piece, In Hog Heaven.
And most recently, these pieces won URSA awards. The "big prize" for that new contest will be announced in about a week!
Wow , it is so cool to see all of the creative bears and friends. Nop matter if you've won an award or not, I personally think everyone who creates with their heart and soul is a winner !
Here are little Dilbert and his needlefelted dog Max, my only award winning creation. They won the September Ace Award and I am so excited. It was fun to challenge myself to create something new and different. To me that's what it is all about !
Hi Paula
What a fun thread! I think when you put your whole heart and skill into creating something and the results bring you satisfaction, you're already a winner... but nothin' like having a little "hardware" to remind you!

These were my winners in the 2006 URSA Awards: The Goldfish Whisperer in 2 categories and George in 1.
Warm Hugs
Cheryl
WOW! What an exceptional amount of talent on this board.
I hope this thread will inspire some of the members who have yet to test the competition waters to be bold and have a go ... nothing ventured, nothing gained after all!
Hmmmmm - well, I've been nominated for several Golden Teddies and have won several TOBY Industry's Choice Awards over the years. One GT nominee, "Campbell", actually did win the Golden Teddy in his category in 2004.
"Dallas" won the Grand Prize in Steiff's North American Design contest a year ago.
"Bayley" was chosen as the Theodore Society's membership bear for 2005.
It's been very exciting to be honored in these ways and I appreciate so much opportunities to 'stretch' myself by designing for these different events.
what totally amazing work everyone!!!!!!!
here are my wins from the adelaide bear show from the 2003 and 2005...i've only entered twice!
What a super panda Jodi!
Are those eyelids I can see? I was under the impression that artists have only started embellishing eyes in more recent years ... just goes to show how little I know! I think it's going to be really interesting to see which techniques have been employed for competition bears over the years. Thanks for letting us see 'Sandy'! He's a smasher!

Wow Jodi!   Doesn't the cover look very different from 1992....I was not introduced to the bear world until 1999.
That's a great looking bear.
