Oh dear, what a day!

It was tough teaching in front of young pupils: 17-18 years old.
I am so glad these were small groups (max for today was 16).
Most of the groups were very nice. The biggest group was more difficult to manage: they have been chatting a lot during the first hour, they calmed down significantly when they had some excercises to do.

Still a lot to change in my teaching content though.

I had not prepared enough for today's lesson and had two grouops finishing earlier than planned .
Next time I will be doing what's necessary to avoid it.

Yesterday I met the other teacher who teaches the sames subjects and she very kindly proposed to help me and that i could rely on her. i am so glad she is such a nice woman. She has been teaching these subjects for many years so she will be very helpful.
That's a chance because at the opposite I got very disappointed by the girl i am replacing. She had been very nice so far until yesterday. After I was back from the school I let a meesage on her cellular phone to ask her some help concerning some punishment work she had given to some pupils. They did not all give it back to me so i asked her what to do about it. I asked her a few other things and told I would e-mail her later the same day for more things to ask.
After I was back from shopping I found an e-mail from her saying she did not want me to let messages on her phone anymore and to some sending her many e-mails (I only sent her a few so far, maybe two or three). She said that as she is pregnant she is tired and she does not want some stress. so she added she did not want to hear anymore about the school.
Can you believe it????
Oh must add that in her previous e-mail she proposed to help me with my teaching....  bear_angry
Needless to tell you how upset I was after I read that e-mail.

So a chance Nelly (the other teacher) will be there to help!!!

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

Woohoo

first smile I have had all day!  Way To Go Sophie!

don't worry about the preggers teacher....her mind is totally on something different-her baby-to-be.  Thank heaven's you have the other teacher as a resourse.

I would imagine that teaching is like nursing:

You do all your real honest-to-goodness learning on the job and not out of a book.

You'll do great, Sophie....trust your heart and mind and make the class your own!

gollyslobberkisses, rare, perhaps, but well deserved!

Sophie I am so glad you survived!  That was certainly not nice about the teacher you replaced... especially when she SAID she'd help!  How confusing is that??  I'm glad though that the other teacher offered to help

bear_thumb  bear_thumb Sophie, you will do a wonderful job!!  Hopefully the second teacher who offered her help was sincere.  Astonishing that the one you replaced did that!  Good grief.......not nice at all!

Big hugs,

Well firstly - I am so pleased to hear everything went well!!!  Please don't let the other teacher who left take down your spirits - you'll be fine without her help!

As for the other teacher who has been there for years - that is the sort of person you need on your side - she sounds lovely!

Just relax - everything will work out fine, I bet you'll make a fabulous teacher!

Sophie so glad that you have survived your first day of teaching.
The teacher you replaced sounds like, not a nice person if she offered to help you and then didn't.
I hope that the other teacher will be able to give you some help.
I am sure that everything will work out well for you.

Hugs

Well done Sophie!  It must be a little daunting teaching older students, but I'm so glad it went so well.  Don't worry about the other teacher...if her first email was nice it may just be a case of pregnancy hormones.  hope it doesn't ruin the experience for you

   Well done Sophie!!!!   I'm sure the classes will look forward to you teaching them.  And it's nice to know you've got the other teacher to lean on as you get your 'sealegs'  bear_happy

Don't bother with the teacher you're replacing.  I'm sure it was a shock to hear she wasn't sincere about helping you, but being that far along in her pregnancy, she's probably just plain irritable with everyone and everything.  As Dilu says, her mind is on her baby to be...not schoolwork just now.  Just ignore her, and keep on with the schoolwork, relying on your new teaching friend.

Sophie, I am glad you survived your first day, you just have to rely on your training and human instinct !!! Hold your head up and stand your ground. They need to know the class can do this the hard way or the easy way !!! Thats a hard age to handle some times but you need to stand your ground. If something is due , it is due, and if not in it is a failing grade. They will figure it out really fast you mean business. Just be there for them to help when they need it and be your kind self and they will all become your friends. Any one who loves teddy bears can figure out how to bring a kid around bear_grin

Don't mess with the prego teacher she is full of raging hormones !!!

I'm sure the first day is the hardest.  It will get easier as the kids get to know you! It's great the one teacher is willing to help you.  Hang in there!

Hi Sophie - the first twenty years are the worst - keep at it.

Remember you are your own person - you are not someone's replacement.  Things will be done your way.
Start tough and then you can 'lighten up'. Trying to do it the other way round spells disaster.

So many of my colleagues fell by the wayside because they tried to be their students' pal not their teacher. The students did not respect them for it.

Mastering your subject will give your students confidence - and tell them if you don't know - they can spot a fake at ten miles.  Other than that - be consistent................

Good Luck................
