This is to notify you that i have ended your
auction agreed to pay the final amount for the item.i
am also using this opportunity to inform you that the
amount that will be on the money order will be more
than ur item fees.i don't really know the exact amount
it will be because it will be issue by my client and
the reason of the over payment is that the amount on
the money order has been signed, and it is more than ur
item fees,so once you receive it you should deduct ur
item fees and go to the nearest western union branch
close to you to send the remainder balance money to my
client manager in africa, the item is going to africa.
There will be no problem about the shipment
because i want to be personally responsible for
it,make sure you deduct ur item fees and send any
remainder balance money on the money order through
western union money transfer, the same day you receive
it and cash it from the bank.have end the auction but
i don"t know how to do it.so i want you.to asure you
that i am really interested in ur item.i will add
extra $5.00 to your money, if you end the auction for
me asap, so email me your full name, address + mobile
phone #so that the m/o can be mailed out asap.
Below are the questions i have for you:
1)are you very sure the item is in good condition?
2)do you have any western union money transfer
location where to send the remainder balance money
around you?
3)can you make sure you get the money order cashed at
ur bank the same day you
receive it?
4)can you allow me to send DHL for the pick up and
complete the
transaction, same day you receive the money order?
5)do you agree to send the remainder balance
money, same day you cash the money order from the bank?

Some of the fairy people have talked about this scam, so I logged on to eBay Live Help, and apparently the only thing I can do is go through the transaction in good faith [taking up valuable time], and then when it falls through apply for my selling fees to be refunded, but apparently I still have to pay listing fees?

This is so disappointing.  eBay makes money, I lose time AND money, and the scammer just goes on to scamming another person?

..am off to block zero feedback bidders.  What a jerk to do this especially around the holidays.

Amelia,
I haven't used ebay yet but can you not with draw your auction?
or just say no to the bidder "you don't do western union" he will may withdraw his bid hopefully?
hope it works out, I have had loads of these emails through my web site.

...he used the Buy-It-Now option, the right wicked nasty bit of goods, so I can't withdraw his bid.  I don't think I can relist the bear until this transaction is on eBay's books as a non-paying bidder, and that could take a week.  So very frustrating and disappointing.

Ugh; you're right.  Very nasty to do this around the holidays.  And unfortunately, as far as I know, you're also right that you're basically just stuck waiting as you go through "appropriate channels" and prove this transaction a fraud.  I'm sorry, hun.

Apparently nowadays because of these scammers, you are best to put a buy it now only with immediate payment required by Paypal- of course that can stop some legitimate bidders but it helps weed out the scammers.
Sorry that you got stuck in this- I am sure that the money would have come in very handy:(

Maybe you can contact the person who put a genuine bid on and find out if they are willing to wait due to a suspected scam?
If they do want it maybe you could relist as buy it now at the bid they had (if it was reasoable of course) at a time where they will be online so they can grab it straight away.
It couldn't hurt could it or is that wrong?

This has happened to me too.   bear_angry Twice.  I had to quit using buy it now.  I had it happen one day and I relisted and it happened again right after I listed again, with a different user name. I reported and waited to get my listing fees refunded.

Your buyer is now Not a reigstered user right? I dont believe you have to wait at all if they are unregistered, you can  claim your fees straight away.
Ebay also  has very helpful message boards that are full of people in your predicament.

I'd only let them pay by Paypal and plaster that all over your items, when up for sale.

I generally only buy from sellers who have Paypal too, as cheques are just too much kerfuffle.... It might deter them. I read about the scam somewhere else, apparently it's a money laundering thing.

I'd be notifying your authorities as well.  I know it sounds silly but if the money order comes through they are laundering.  Take a copy of the email along as well.
They are always interested in this type of thing.
