I thought some of you might be interested to know that we have a couple of competitions coming up here in the UK, both welcoming of international entries:

Our 'BRITISH BEAR ARTIST AWARDS' have just been advertised and as well as the usual bear categories, they also have a separate 'International' category.  The competition is promoted by Teddy Bear Club International magazine in conjunction with 'Wendy's World' show promoters.  Entry fees are reasonable at £15.00 for the first category and £12.50 each other category, but please bear in mind, these awards require all nominated bears to attend the award ceremony, which takes place at the British Bear Fair in Hove on 9th December 2007.  So, if you are overseas and get nominated, you will be required to post your bear at your own expense - he will be returned to you a month later.  From what I understand from the entry form, UK artists will be required to bring their nominated bears to the show in person.

To apply for an entry form you will need to either email wendyhobday@yahoo.com or write to British Bear Artist Awards, Pickwell Place, Cheapside Lane, Denham Village, Bucks UB9 5AD United Kingdom.

Closing date for receipt of entry form is August 31st 2007.  Photographs must be submitted by October 1st 2007.  Final judging of nominated pieces to take place on December 9th 2007.

A final word about this competition is to tell you that our very own Chris Pike will be on the panel of judges!  What a great choice!

The 'READERS' CHOICE AWARDS' have also just been advertised in the latest edition of the Teddy Bear Scene magazine.  www.teddybearscene.co.uk

These awards are open to all nationalities and there are four categories to enter .. Bare Bear, Dressed Bear, Miniature Bear and Furry Friend.

Entry is by token if you aren't a subscriber to the mag ... you have to collect 3 tokens from Teddy Bear Scene magazine for each separate entry, but annual subscribers can enter without the tokens.

Closing date for entries is 29th June 2007 and a shortlist for each category will be selected by a preliminary assessment panel in early July.  Short-listed entries will appear in the September issue of Teddy Bear Scene magazine.  A voting slip is published in the mag and the great thing about this competition, is that the final judging is done by the readers!  Winners will be notified by 5th October 2007.

These awards offer prizes for the winners!  Each category winner will receive a cheque for £100 and a framed certificate and all winning entries will be published in the December issue of TBS.

In the past, winning pieces have been required to be exhibited at the Ally Pally show in October, but as the show has now ceased, at the moment I'm not certain whether or not the bears will be judged purely by photographic entry.  I think this may be the case as no mention is made of requiring the bears to be sent in the magazine this month ... please check this out with the organisers if you are going to enter!

Each entry will require an official entry form, available from Jackie Green - telephone +44 1778 391107 or email jackieg@warnersgroup.co.uk

I've just lifted the information for these competitions from the material I've been sent, so if you want to enter and would like to know more, please contact the organisers direct.

Happy creating folks!!  Have fun!!
