Just a quick note to let you know my eye surgery went very well...although the patch is driving me bloomin' nuts already.  I had a great anethesiologist this time so I was kept in la la la la land instead of too awake...yeah!!

So now starts my nearly daily trips to Portland (70) miles one way) for the next forever... bear_original:)  I will be checking in but may not post much as I can barely see...I hope this message isn't full of mistakes. :P

Love to you all...

PS.  If anyone messages with Jane of Doodlebears...give her my well wishes for a speedy recovery.

PS again...I did barely finished my first mohair bear last night very late...didn't get him all dolled up yet but will try to get someone to photograph him and post him for me.  My son who is 21 informed me that he wants the bear...he told be privately in the car so noone else could hear him...isn't that cute?

YAY SHANTELL !!!!!:D:D:D

Too too cute, your'e gonna let him have it right?

I am so tickeled that you are doing so well.  And yes the patch is a pain in the patootie-  I only had to wear one for a WEEK, BUT IT SURE MADE-oops caps lock-typing difficult....hmmm I have no excuse for my typos

And if you made any toots I surely did not see them.

I am so glad your eye sight will be better for you!

100_0036B.jpgThanks everyone...it's been kind of a rough afternoon...having alot of eye discomfort which I haven't had before.

I did manage to grab a quick photo...I'm not sure he's done completely...but done for now until I can see better to finish him up.  I'm really wanting to try some eyelids but couldn't find leather cording locally...can you believe it?  So I'll have to order some online...perhaps another bear.

So...here he is...I've named him Chip...for Chocolate Chip cookies...doesn't he look like he's just got caught with his hand in the cookie jar...I'm sure he's hiding one or more somewhere in all that WONDERFUL Intercal mohair.

Oh, Shantell... you must be so proud, girl.  He's beautiful, really!  That mohair is terrific, too; if you can find the tag and aren't in too much discomfort, let us know what you used sometime.

What an absolute charmer, really.  He's superb!

I keep wanting to ask you what kind of surgery you had because I missed it somehow, somewhere, but I'm not wanting to bring up something awkward.  It's killing me, though, not to know.  Would love to hear from you on that if you're willing...

Feel better soon, and congrats on an absolutely darling first mohair bear.

Shantell, so glad that your surgery went well and hope that you make a speedy recovery.
Well done for such a cute bear - and your first one made from mohair!
Chip is a very cute bear and looks like he has stolen the chocolate chip cookies.
How lucky for your Son if he  gets to be the proud owner of such a neat Bear.

Thanks everyone...yes, I really really really love working with the mohair.  It was so much fun watching him come together...although his poor little head was a frightful sight at first.  bear_original   This particular piece is KID9/H which is 1-1/2" medium denisty in Chocolate (549S).

Shelli...I really don't mind sharing.  I'm pretty much an open book...or so I've been told.  My surgery is called a trabeculectomy.  It's a fairly invasive procedure in that they actually put a hole in my eye in order for optic fluid to escape and lower my eye pressure and then slow the progression of my glaucoma.  It's done in the upper part of the eye under the eye lid and is kinda of gross to look at.  This problem I've been having is at my age (I'm 40) my eye tends to want to heal too fast and the hole he makes scars over very quickly even with very aggressive followup treatment.  Before all of this you couldn't come near my eye with anything...I was pathetic learning to do drops...but now, well...I love to tell my dad this because it totally grosses him out...but I get shots in my eye.  They numb it with drops and I feel nothing but it's a good story for creeping people out.  I get to use lovely steriod drops in my eye to hopefully slow down the healing process but they have their downside too because they can and do cause cataracts...so far after 4 years there aren't any signs of them.  So hears hoping this is the last surgery for awhile.  I know I'll have more in the future but hopefully not for awhile.  Deb mentioned a larger font to see better but unfortunately in my case what I do see is pretty close to 20/20 the loss of vision is just that...no vision...and I have a terrible problem with light and glare problems and eye fatigue...it's hard to explain.  So it's not corrective surgery just preventive.  I'm very fortunate that I see a specialist who is wonderful and very well known in his field.  I can not say enough good things about him and that's rare I think anymore to say about a doctor.

I'm anxious to get started on another bear...and yes, I am giving this one to my son....the spoiled rotten brat.  I do however want to do some hightlighting on him still and foofoo him up a bit before.  I'll try to make Kyle hold still long enough to take a picture of him with it.

Love to you all...

Shantell

Shantell your bear is adorable.  I am still trying to get up the nerve to buy mohair and chop it up !!!!  You are an inspiration, maybe I'll give it a try soon too.   Your son is a lucky guy to get your bear.

As for your eye, I cringed thinking about eye needles ...eeeeeewwww.  a050.gif
Glad it went well though.

You can do it Tammy!  My very first bear was mohair!  I loved mohair bears... so I figured if I was going to spend all that time making him,... he may as well be mohair bear_grin
