From yesterdays challenges to today fabulousness!

I have just got home from birthing 3 beautiful kittens!

A friend of mine found a stray cat about 3 months ago. When I first seen the cat a few weeks ago I told them she was 100% pregnant. She is a beautiful Calico names Galaxy.

I got a call at 5am this morning say she was in labour. By the time I got there she had already had one kitten but it was dead. Very sad, I know. Then 2 follow were 2 caramel kittens and a black kitten with a caramel toe on his right foot and a white on his left foot and a little white patch under his chin. Was a staight forward birth but her owners are not to well with blood and such. She was such a good cat, Very little sound and no signs of agression or anything towards me touching her kittens and helping out!

From one day to the next how wonderfull has it tured out! What a brilliant morning, It's 6:55am and I am totally on a high! Wish I were at my place, You'd see a few bears after if I were lol

One very happy guy here!  bear_laugh

How wonderful Richy, I will look forwards to seeing the pictures. It's a great experience to see new life coming into the world. I delivered my beautiful dog Lucy as her Mum Holly was having problems pushing her out, I felt privileged to be part of the birth.

What a great start to a day, and some new lives! And I SO agree - it is a privilege to be part of the birth.....years back, we assisited in the birth of our Norwegian Forest cat's first and only litter. We had put "birth boxes" all over the house, in nice quiet places, and just for a joke  left one in the middle of the lounge....and - yes - Wolkje jumped into the box one evening and proceeded to go into labour, in front of our two Irish Wolfhounds. It was such an amazing experience - proffering a hand for her to push against, and carefully holding kitten no.1 while the second was entering the world......she had a big litter - after seven, it looked like she was done for the night, so we eventually tucked them all up and went to bed......it wasn't till the next afternoon that I realised there were actually eight!
The other cats wouldn't even come into the lounge, but the wolfies were quite welcome - they would check up on the babies every now and then, and totally ignore Wolkje's food bowls, which at any other time would have been fair game...ain't life wondeful sometimes!

Maria: animals are surprising aren’t they... My aunt had two Siamese cats (male and female). Under normal circumstances, during dinner time, the male would eat the food while the female stayed back until he was done. She would eat after he finished. BUT she got pregnant. My aunt was amazed that during her pregnancy, the male allowed the female to eat her fill first and only after she was done, did he eat. Funny how animals know about these things....

Michelle - I think I read somewhere that pregnant cats, and mums with kittens somehow take precedence - seems to be an unwritten cat "law"...I guess it's Nature making sure the next generation has the best possible chance. Certainly, when Wolkje was pregnant, the other cats seemed almost nervous of her, and like I said, when the kittens were born they kept WELL clear.
And I'll never forget this little black cat, curled up with her babies and almost beaming, PROUDLY, whenever a big Wolfie head popped into the box to check up on them...
