Ok my daughters have fallen in love with the furreal Buttercup.
Now the tihng is I have designed a pony but it needs a skeleton to be able to put up with girls climbing on it.

Any suggestions?

Gosh Bron, you are a good Mum. Honestly he is cute my daughter has admired him too. Are you going to make them one?

Sounds like it needs to be a wooden skeleton to hold their weight

3 of my girls are going nuts over Buttercup.  I had already designed one but now find i really ned it otherwise I am going to go crazy.  Just gotta get the support right.  Don't want to have to explain a broken pony to girls.

Gosh, I have a pattern with instructions for a ride-on bear that a friend had given me. I wish there was a way to show it to you. I agree that a framework made of wood would be the best thing to use. The pattern I have basically has two bear profiles cut out of wood with horizontal pieces of wood in between them to space and brace them, one at the top where the child would sit. I would think you could do the same with the horse.

My thought is to build something like a sawhorse out of wood for the frame.

Donna, that's just what I was thinking.. Perhaps with an extra wide piece between the legs for sitting on.

They are not the only ones to fall inlove with 'Butterscotch'.
I would dearly love a stable full. I adore the way he chews and his ears flick when you scratch him. heheheheheheh
I gather there will be a lot of people sitting back to watch what you do.  bear_grin  Me for one bear_grin

I thinks so.  now to brush up on my woodworking skills to try make it really strong.  I have a furreal Panda , couldn't resist. BUT I wwill lose it this year to my youngest daughter (will have to go get myself another one.) They are really lovely and the way they respond... I'm a sucker fo them.

Bron, I have a wooden saddle stand that would be sturdy enough as a frame, my hubby made it for me to hold my saddles. If you can picture an A frame that is used to support an old trestle table thats what it looks like. I'll grab a picture if you are interested to see it.

Could you build the structure around a stool, or use the legs and fashion a new back for it maybe?

I think a stool could be too awkward, the 'saw horse' sounds what I need to do.   A horse for a horse. LOL

Bronwen that sounds like quite an undertaking.  I have to agree with everyone else that a wooden skeleton would probably work the best.  Make sure you post photos when you're done.  What lucky girls you have!

2007_0804Image0003.JPG2007_0804Image0001.JPGBron, this is what I was thinking would be good as a wooden frame, you could modify it with a neck and bring the side rails up higher. etc. etc.

Karen yes that would be good.  Stable and strong (excuse the pun).
Time to start building!
