Some of you may have noticed on the link I posted about Knut -a furore over the Nurnberg zoo's polar bears. apparently , two females had given birth, and the zoo had decided to operate a "hands off" policy, although there were fears that the cubs might not be being fed by their mothers. Today comes the news that the one surviving cub has been taken from her mother and will be hand reared - seems that the Director has made the decision, rather than get "lynched".........anyway - you can read all about it on www.spiegel.de - scroll down and there is a link on the lower right hand which takes you to the English language version. Seems a bit sad that they have taken the cub away from Mum, as it was doing well, but she has been acting strangely - probably been made nervous from all the press attention, and they don't want to risk losing the cub.
