These have been in the news since the 60s or 70s, but this is really unique. They used to be random splashes of color, but I'm absolutely enamored with this new style!

I'm sure the young elephants (is there a 'cub-type' name for young elephants?) Go To School daily to learn, but to watch the delicacy of how they set up their brush strokes (going back over some of the lines later that fade as the brush runs out of paint) and twist the tip of their trunks, just like a wrist, is breath-taking.

If I had been the person filming this, there would have been a price war, as I would have had ONLY THAT painting, which would go with my film. It's on snopes.com (I get a weekly update post) and on YouTube (of course!)

Sorry to break into your realm Tammie, but this is one cute Animal Picture of the Day that I had to share!!

Bobbi,
I saw these elephants on tv a few days ago.  They are now actually painting self portraits but have an artist on "stand by" giving them directions.  It is amazing to watch.  The elephant decide when the painting is done, put down the paint brush and walks away.  Some of the native people in Africa believe that elephants are the only animals that have souls.

I would love to have a painting by an elephant on my wall.

I just love elephants. bear_wub  bear_wub  bear_wub

Even if I don't always respond to replies from you-all, know that they & you are appreciated!!

For Minimalist art, these are wonderful, especially the touch of color with the Poppy!

I'm very interested in how they teach this: do they give each line a number? and give the command of that number and hand them a brush loaded with the appropriate amount to cover that distance? and repeat the number if a line needs more paint later?

I couldn't help but think that there is more intelligence there than the YouTUBE text would lead one to believe: watching the tip of the trunk be turned back & forth 'just so', to place the brush tip at a connecting point and be aligned to head off in a different direction... to me that shows much personal, on-the-spot intelligence!

wow - remarkable - but then they are really intelligent beasties, aren't they?
And I believe that the young are "calves"............

Truly amazing. He was being very precise with every brust stroke and even painted the elephant in motion.
