This is a great picture of an Impala.
The graceful impala is an abundant antelope of African savanna. Unfortuanately for the Impala, they are prey for leopards, lions and scavengers. As for the birds they are Red-billed Oxpeckers, they eat the insects, mainly ticks off of the Impalas. However, their most favorite food is blood, and while they may take on ticks bloated with blood, they also feed on it directly, pecking at the Impala's wounds which keeps them open to more parasites. So, what the bird does good to the Impala, is negated by it keeping the wounds open to parasites and disease. POOR IMPALA!
Hugs, Jane.
Impala - yes! Thank you for the info, Jane . . . I think. Not so good about the birds liking blood - ick.
