I was wondering if anyone on TT was affected by the ice storm, and then realized they couldn't post if they were affected Just snagged this picture off of Google and it made me shudder - we went through a severe ice storm in 1998 and were without power for 11 days, so I can appreciate the situation.
I hope everyone is okay and they have alternative heat or power sources, if their hydro is out. We had two gas fireplaces that worked independently of hydro, and it really saved us when we were without power for such a long stretch. We don't have a gas fireplace in this house and we are looking at putting one in or getting a generator. It's no fun to be cold! Sending hugs to anyone affected by this awful situation.
We got 8 more inches of snow yesterday and its more flurries today and tomorrow and possibly another large snow storm on Monday and Tuesday of next week. If we get another 6 or 7 inches our patio set in the back yard will completely disappear under the snow - yikes!

We got the whole ball of wax here. It went from snow to ice to snow to ice........what a mess. Fortunately we did not lose power and we heat with wood so we're ok there. However, when I went to feed the horses and chickens, the gates were all frozen shut so I had to climb the fence. What a sight. I'm sure the horses got a good laugh out of that one.
Nothing so drastic here and I'm so sorry about all the problems the midwest/northeast has experienced the WHOLE WINTER LONG, it seems. We had a dusting of sleet/freezing rain Tues. night, but just a little ice makes Texas drivers go crazy. Seven deaths because of it, unfortunately, but no huge power outages that I know of. It's warming up again, thank goodness.
Sending warming hugs to all those who are having that terrible weather.
I just saw it on the news and it looks so awful.
Stay safe.
Hugs
Carolyn

Just got flurries here in Chicago, but my Mom and Stepdad down in Danville, KY (south of Lexington) got hit badly. The entire city shut down, Even the city water works lost power Been out for 2 days and not expecting it back till Saturday. That's better than 11 days though....
Wish they had a generator like we do... but they've not had anything as serious as this before.
Laura Lynn,
It is kind of a necessity to have a generator these days, when living up north, isn't it. The U.S. ice storm has got hubby looking at them again quite seriously and I can't say that I object. We made out okay during our days without power, with extra heat and the camp stove plus barbecue. We did lose a lot of food in our fridge and freezer, which we got compensated for with funds from the government, but with care, we were able to buy small amounts and stash it in the snow to keep cool. It's amazing what you can do when challenged. It really affected hubby though - he went to work in Ottawa, 30 miles away (which wasn't affected) in complete darkness and came home in the dark it as well. It was a couple of years before he would close a curtain in the house - he hated feeling closed in.
hugs,
Brenda
You all got ice and we're melting from the heat over here, even in little ol' Tassie! I was sooooo hot yesterday and working with mohair and alpaca was really uncomfortable, ( the menopausal hot flushes weren't helping any either!)
