I only tend to use ebay at the moment, it's fine for some things, but I wondered how others are finding Etsy? I want to sell some things at fixed prices, if I list them on my website they just sit there lol, and ebay takes 10% of the BIN price (soooooooo expensive!) I would love to hear your opinion of Etsy, I love to look there, there are some FABULOUS artisans and items! Heaven!! Any help appreciated as ever. xx
Hi Clare,
Etsy is slower than Ebay, but I've managed to sell three bears there in the last month or so and it's worth sticking with it for me. It's cheaper than Ebay and the listings last 4 months. I think the more artists are on there, the more the site will grow.
hugs,
Brenda
I actually started out on Etsy and went to Ebay and have since re-opened my shop on Etsy. EBay is faster paced and I get a ton more views and I have had two sales in the last month which is huge for me. But when my bears don't sell there after listing them twice I move them to Etsy and lower the price a tad. This seems to be working so far. To me Etsy is extremely reasonable price wise and they have more of a "community " feel. I just wish bear artists on there received more traffic. I'm wondering about Bear Pile. Has anyone had huge success there?
Have a nice weekend,
Lisa
Lisa,
I just tried one of my lower priced creations on Bear Pile and it sold in less than a day to a customer in Japan. But I assume that was just a lucky quirk  I'm going to try again in a couple of days. I found Bear Pile to be very artist friendly but you do have to handle everything about your sale. But I think anyone familiar with eBay would have no problem with Bear Pile.

Etsy is really slow for me when it comes to selling bears. I've had success in the past on BearPile and would recommend it if it's bears you have to sell. Etsy seems to be great for less expensive items. Like you Clare, it's heaven to shop there! So many amazing things! Post on your website, blog, in an email to your collectors etc. that you've opened a shop there..... I've found that you do have to do some advertising for your Etsy shop to help bring traffic to it.
Hi Clare,
From a buyer's point of view I would definitely prefer Bearpile (if it's just bears your planning to sell).
I check bearpile several times a week, just to see which new bears are being offered and I have adopted several bears through Bearpile. It's very user-friendly and the communication with the artists always went very well !
I don't check Etsy that much, because I find that most of the bears offered there are not really "my kind of bear" (but that's just due to my taste in teddies ). Moreover artist bears are listed under "Dolls and miniatures", which already indicates that the emphasis is on smaller, cheaper bears. I do know some artists put their bears both on Bearpile and Etsy.

Hi Clare,
Like you I was looking at both BearPile and Etsy as an alternative to eBay for my bears. I decided to join BearPile, which I did yesterday!! The artist bear category on Etsy just seems hard to find and sort of gets lost amidst all the other items for sale, whereas BearPile is all about teddy bears.....which is good for me....I hope

If you do a google search for "artist bear" - see what comes up first (It's Bearpile )
i play on etsy, mind you i make a lot of varied stuff !

Thank you for your input everyone - I was put off Bear Pile a little while back as they had changed their prices and it was quite expensive, but I see they seem to have changed again since and I will look into that, thank you!!
I may give Etsy a little whirl with some bear and prim related items, and try Bear Pile for actual bears. Thank you all!!
I am a huge fan of Etsy... of course, it helps too if you have a blog with a following, that you can post on about upcoming etsy sales (I do not... but I've noticed this trend among top selling artists!!!)
