I finally finished my bear today, my very first one I've done completely from scratch, but he's driving me nuts.  He's very insistent he wants a coat, and I cannot work out how to make one (I have made him a hat though, he's quite satisfied with that).  I've never made clothes for any of my bears before, so this is something of a new challenge.

It needs to be sewn as I can't knit or crochet (and have wool allergies anyway), so I'm trying fleece as I have loads of that.  I tried adapting a pattern from a teddy making book I had, but it was kind of combining a blouse sleeve with a waistcoat/vest, and, er, the best I can say is it would fit a bear with a wider back and narrower arms  bear_whistle   So anyway, I'm pretty sure it can be recycled in the future by cutting down the back for a smaller bear, and effectively removing a chunk as seam allowance, but it was wrong in several ways for this bear  bear_ermm   So does anyone know where I can get clothing patterns for bears?  I've tried looking up doll clothes patterns online, but couldn't find anything that would work, somebody please help save my sanity, and stop Spike from glaring at me!

Try this book; it's great for clothes -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/THE-WELL-DRESSED- … 2556eb942b

(amazon link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Well-Dressed-Be … 80&sr=1-1)

and this one -

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Making-Dressing … 744&sr=1-1

Both have plenty of nice clothing patterns. The second one, the only coat is like a raincoat Mac style, so for a coat, go for the first one - you can see a picture os the coat on the cover, there is also a short ladies jacket and a nice ladies coat in there bear_grin

Those look great, thank you from myself and Spike  bear_flower   I'm going to crawl out of the flat and hit Borders on the vague off chance they might have something like that, but either way I think I'll probably order them!

I have always found making clothes for bears rather tricky!  No bear is the same shape!
I make their clothes myself by making a paper pattern first and adjusting accordingly.
I get a lot of 'gruff' comments from a'bear bear' but sooner or later they are clothed, but it is very much trial and error!
Best wishes

Thanks, I know what you mean, I was just hoping to get some basic patterns I could adapt in some way.  I have made a few things to wear, but really only hats and a few fleece jumpers, so I've only got vague notions of how other patterns might be made up  bear_ermm   Anyway, I found a book that had some clothes for dressing up bunnies for kids that was only a couple of quid in Borders, so that should do me for now until the Amazon books come through  bear_original
