I have just bought a 1950s Polish bear who is made of golden cotton plush.  This was a fabric used after WW2 when mohair was unobtainable but which I now cannot find anywhere in the UK.  One of his arms is missing and I would love to make him another which is a precise match for the lost limb.

I have a heap of cotton plush that will probably do the job. A friend of mine made a replacement ear for her cotton Polish bear with it and it looked like the genuine article!
It's pile is very short and it will need to be dyed to match, as it's a pale beige colour. If you think it will do, let me know and I'll pop some in the post to you.  bear_original

Linda, that would be fabulous, thank you.  I've only just joined this site - how can I pay and is there a way of letting you have my postal address?

Will you please post a picture of your bear.  I don't think I've ever seen a Polish teddy before.  I would love to see your new treasure!

Hugs,
Alison

020.JPG015.JPGI am posting Diana's pics for her.  She emailed them to me as she did not know how to post.  Diana, just scroll down and it says, upload photos.  Click browse, find them photos on your computer and double click.  When you hit submit, they will appear in your post.  He's a really cute teddy so I can see why you want to make him a new arm.

Hugs,
Alison

That looks a lot like my bear!  Both arms and legs needed a retread when I was 5 as I'd loved all the fur off, but my dad is not an expert sewer.  It's on my list to try and restore her, but I'm a bit afraid of removing the extra fur layer

Linda, the fur has arrived safely - thank you so much for your kind help.  I shall get dyeing this afternoon, and will send you photos of the patient when he has recovered!

My pleasure Diana, I look forward to seeing the results. The fur dyes really well by the way. Is it the right stuff for the Job?
