IMG_4891-2.jpgreproduction-bear-011-small.jpgA couple of years ago I purchased a very sweet little early American stick bear circa 1910-20.  He sat on my desk  and I looked at his dirty little body and thought he could use a cleaning, BAD IDEA.  That sweet little bear fell apart in my hands (I am not a gentle person.)  I hid his little broken body in my bottom drawer so I couldn't see the horror of what I had done.  I finally took him out and took him completely apart and made an exact pattern of him.  Now he is a she. I actually made a few, maybe one will be a boy yet. Under her dress I have pinned a little heart made from the fabric of the original bear, it was just too fragile to reuse in any other way.

Very unlike my usual bears, I really enjoyed the simplicity of this little bear.  She is going to my Mom.

Thank you Toy Box Arts, Becky, Sandra and Laurie.  I am glad you like her.

Becky I only dirtied up a little, after all that is where all the trouble started.

She is absolutely wonderful, Joanna, and what a great idea to put a piece of the original bear under her dress.  bear_wub

In a way, the original teddy lives on in these new "old" bears.

I think your mom will be mighty pleased with her !   bear_flower

Thank you all.  I have never given my mom bear before.  She is 82, I figure it's time.  I imagine this is more like the kind of bear maybe she had when she was little.

She is just perfect.  What a wonderful story.  I love the way you have made a little heart out of the original fabric.  Your lucky Mama.
