As I wasn't at work in December, I decided I'd make gran a bear for her Christmas too, although she's not really shown any beary leanings before. At 85, I figured it was time she learnt
Believe it or not, Mahogany started off as a 6" lavendar and white panda. Honest! And he wasn't called Mahogany either... He wasn't even a he! However, I signed up for the Extreme Sculpting class at E-Bearz University in November, and having tried a bear head using the pattern from the class, I thought I would try my own bear head, and a body to match, and then give that to gran instead. So here's my first bear with big head darts, almost round ears, and big body darts. Having first experimented with an inset body and different nose colour in my Christmas swap mini bear, I thought I'd try that one out in big size for good measure too! Mahogany is quite a stout 13" bear made in ivory and chinchilla faux fur (that it turned out I was allergic to ), and my gran hasn't stopped hugging him since she got him. He's about to have a more active social life than me (I believe the whist on Tuesday is his first big engagement, but he's already visited quite a few people in the neighbourhood), and is currently sitting in pride of place in her second arm chair in the living room, the visitors will apparently have to take the sofa
Mahogany looks so soft no wonder gran loves to cuddle him! He sounds like he's going to be a very busy boy

What a cutie. I see why your Grandmother loves him. I have a Step-Mother in her 90's and she loves all the bears I send her. She never had a bear until I started to send them to her about 10 years ago and she is always looking for another one.
He's gorgeous...so huggable!
Hi Katy,
Mahogany is an adorable bear and he's just begging to be hugged .
What a lovely story about your gran ! Ah, you're never too old to learn to love a teddy.
And Mahogany is going to be a big hit with all those grandma's and granddads hugging him and spoiling him.
There is just one downside to your lovely gesture : your gran is going to pretty sorry she didn't start hugging teddy bears 50 years ago !
Well done
Hugs,

Thanks all for the lovely comments. I just hope she didn't take him to the hairdressers today, I'd forgotten that trip
How wonderful and he is a lovely bear you have done a great job and I'm so happy for your Gran it's never too late to love a teddy.
